15 Ways To Deal With End Of The Semester Stress

With one month left of school, it's that time of year again, a month full of stressing over exams, grades, formals, and getting through these last few weeks before summer. Here are 15 easy and helpful ways to get through hell month:

1. Organize

The more you organize and know where everything is, the less you have to sweat the small stuff (a.k.a, something you could be stressed about, but have total control over now because you actually do know exactly where you put that textbook you need for your quiz thats due in exactly 59 minutes).

2. Make tea instead of coffee

Keep away the final exam jitters by staying calm, and giving your body what it needs to reenergize without keeping your mind going off into other things. Tea doesn't only relax your body, but it relaxes your mind as well.

3. Play a Favorite Old Song

It may seem like a silly suggestion, but music really does bring back all kinds of memories, so go back to a time that you were sure the world was ending and see how far you've come, or listen to something that brings back some of your fondest memories and remind yourself that it's almost summer, and you can have plenty of those times all over again.

4. Watch a documentary

Take half an hour to let your brain learn something that is actually interesting to you to clear your mind a bit from all the textbook nonsense that is keeping you from thinking rationally. You could even find a documentary that has to do with what your studying. You never know, getting to quiz yourself this way could really give you some much needed confidence.

5. Listen to music that makes you genuinely happy

Music really is great for the soul, and if your listening to song of your favorite tunes, how could you really be unhappy?

6. Play with puppies

I know, who would ever even want to use this suggestion? It actually is proven that dogs bring down stress in college students during finals, and many universities have days during the end of the semester where they have dogs from local animal shelters or other places to help students relax for a bit before their exams.

7. Remember to eat

Of course you're going to be in a worse mood if you're hangry.

8. Remember to shower

No last note to read is worth skipping three days of showering. Plus, clean is a great feeling always.

9. Make future plans

Make yourself feel better by feeling like you are working toward something, whether it be a trip, a night out with friends, concert, etc. This will make you feel a lot better knowing you have something great to look forward to.

10. Watch something that will remind you that you are a good person

This is for the judgmental people only, which I know is pretty much all of us. Two words: Reality TV. No matter what show you pick, most likely you'll end up thinking, "Wow, well at least I know I'm doing better than that guy."

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
