15 Reasons Why Being A Barista Is The Best Job In College

Coffee and college go together pretty well. Almost every college student drinks coffee in order to wake up in the morning, stay up late to study, and just to enjoy throughout the day. Also, most college students have to work to pay for things when they are living on their own in the semi “real world,” so why not have a job that offers benefits like free or discounted coffee? Here are some of the reasons why being a barista is the perfect job:

1. Coffee smells amazing. Whenever you are at work you will instantly be in a good mood because it just smells so good.

2. It is mentally stimulating. No matter how long you work there, you can always learn new things. It simply never gets boring.

3. You get to learn how to make a variety of different drinks. It is like having an entire secret menu inside your head.

4. You can make up your own combinations of drinks. And you can name them after yourself, even if no one will ever order it.

5. Coffee isn’t just coffee, it is an art form. Whether it is plain iced coffee with milk, or a cappuccino with a crazy foam design, it is all beautiful.

6. You get to interact with people. If you are working the cash register, you will most likely talk to hundreds of different people within a few hours.

7. Most of the other people that are baristas will be pretty close in age to you. It is the easiest way to make new friends!

8. You can always give people the best recommendations of what to order. They are never disappointed.

9. People are always impressed when you can tell them exactly what goes in each drink and how they are made.

10. You know how your drink should be made when you go to other coffee stores, and you always make sure they do it correctly.

11. Free and/or discounted coffee is basically the most amazing benefit ever. It's even way better than 40% clothing at your favorite store, because coffee is necessary for life.

12. The tips when older customers come in can be really great, especially if you are talkative.

13. You learn how to work under high pressure/stressful situations. Like having ten drinks to make and you are the only one working, or when you mess up a drink you know what you have to do.

14. Barista’s have the power to make people’s days. Whenever you give someone his or her drink, they instantly become happier.

15. It makes you feel like a bad ass while making drinks all day. Coffee is love, coffee is life.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register.
