15 Perks of Having Guy Friends
FOX

Throughout my short life, I have only had a few really close girl friendships. Most of the time, fights begin and those friendships dwindle over something absolutely stupid. I can say that I do have some wonderful and current friendships with girls. Although, I never realized what it was like to be good friends with guys until a few months ago. I have to say, it is one of the best things ever, and I do have to say that every girl needs to have a group of guy friends because it is amazing.

1. You can totally be yourself around them with no judgement.

For the most part, guys just enjoy having someone around who can take humor and can crack some jokes back. You must have a backbone because they will lay some jokes out on you as well. And, that's okay.

2. They will tell you the truth about your boyfriend/girlfriend.

Your guy friends will be the first one to step in after opening up about your relationship. They will definitely let you know if they do not like the person you are with and let you know that you do not deserve that. Trust me, they will know everything after a first date. All they want is your happiness.

3. They will say something if you are not acting yourself.

Our first instinct is that guys do not have emotions. This is quite the opposite. They really do care about us and do worry if we are upset. If you do not want to talk about it, they will just hug you and tell you that everything is going to be okay. They will also make sure that you do not go home upset and will drive to the grocery store to get you some ice cream before you get home.

4. They don't care what you look like.

You could be wearing pj's when you hang out, or you could also be cutely dressed. When it comes down to it, they do not care what you are wearing. They just want to have a good time with whatever you are all doing.

5. Making sure that you eat something is their #1 priority.

The best part is that they don't care what you order on the menu. They just want to make sure that you don't starve. So pig out!

6. They are up to doing basically anything when hanging out.

Although it can be difficult to make a decision on what you are going to do, the process will be fun in itself. It always works out in the end, so don't worry about finding something specific to do every time you are together. Make sure you find a group that likes to be adventurous and one that is willing to see new places with you. The more the merrier!

7. When your heart gets broken, they will be the first ones to be at your door.

It's not that girl friends don't do this, but it is different when your guy friend is there for you. He really wants to make sure that you are happy and he will listen to you for hours. I have had the best of both worlds when both-gender friends have shown up to pick up my pieces. When a guy breaks your heart, it can be nice when your guy friend shows up and proves that not all guys are monsters. It can go both ways.

8. Getting invitations to family gatherings.

Their families will know you just by your voice just over a few months. They will also be the first ones to worry if you are not at a party. It's like having multiple families, but without the chores. They become your family, and you become a part of theirs.

9. They will tell you how much you are appreciated.

And vice versa. They will always be sure to let you know how much you mean to them. What you do for them does not go unnoticed.

10. People will ask if you are dating.

Yeah, this has happened quite a lot. Sometimes it's fun to pretend that you are and then totally goof off about it. I would definitely recommend going to a restaurant and pretending that you together while speaking in an accent. You will get really close with your guy friends, but there is no pressure to date.

11. They will be honest.

When it comes down to it, they just won't lie to you. If you look like a mess (mentally or physically), they will say something, but then try to help fix whatever is wrong. Do not be afraid to be honest with them as well. Honesty is not appreciated in today's world as it should be.

12. If you get your haircut, they will notice it.

Sometimes, guys can give the best compliments. You can get used to your girl friends saying "Oh you are so beautiful" or "I love that outfit", but it can be difficult to realize if they are telling the truth. It can be harder for guys to say things like that. After a haircut, they will be the first ones to say something, trust me.

13. No drama!!!

It's true. This is probably one of the better perks. I have always dealt with petty girl drama in high school and college. We all know how fun that can be. Yeah, guys can talk about some gossip, but it's nothing serious. Guys do not want to get into any of that. It is probably one of the greatest things ever!!!

14. They are the big brothers you may have never had.

You didn't ask for them, but they just happened to be in your life. Of course they will make fun of you and will laugh at you (that is what they are there for). They will also protect you and they do not plan on going anywhere anytime soon. No matter what you are going through, they will be there and will help you get back on your feet.

15. They will always have your back.

This is true with everything. Do not worry about scaring them away because you will not accomplish that. Whether it's with school, family, other friends, or work, they are there to listen to you. ALWAYS. They are also not afraid to go and kill someone for you.

I have had a difficult time with some family & relationship issues the last few months, and I honestly would not have been able to get through any of it without my group of guy friends. They are my rocks and I could never thank them enough. Make sure you let your guy friends know how much they appreciate them. They are the real MVP'S.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
