I've been playing sports for a majority of my life and I wouldn't trade a single moment of it for the world. I've played on all different level teams for all different kind of sports. It's given me so many opportunities, experiences and friends. I've dealt with both amazing and horrible coaches and teammates alike as well as drama, tears, injuries, etc. But in all my years of playing sports, my time on (and the time spent off) the field has taught me major life lessons that I will use way after I hang up the cleats. In my 15 years I've learned these 15 important things:
1.You get what you give.
You can expect results if you don't put in the work.
2.There’s always room for improvement.
Your game can always improve, your relationships can always be healthier and your work can always be polished.
3. Not everything deserves an argument.
Somethings are not worth fighting over and are just better to let go.
4. Hard workers will get farther compared to those who are talented but lazy.
Everything you do is 90% mental skill and 10% physical skill.
5. Networking is important.
Get yourself out there, it'll take you places and get you things you never imagined.
6. Even if you don’t get along outside of the job, working together is essential to success.
I learned this one quick. You don't have to like everyone you work or play with, but it's important to swallow your pride and focus on the goal.
7. Overtime is necessary.
At the gym, in your home or at the office... there's always going to be extra time put into something. Especially if it is important to you.
8. Nothing comes easy.
It's going to take some blood, sweat and tears.
9. Success is better when there’s sweat involved, not a silver platter.
Receiving something you put your heart and soul into is seriously the best feeling.
10. It’s not all about the limelight.
Reward for your work is great, but that should not be your only motivation.
11. Perpetration is key.
Don't go into things blind.
12. It takes more than one person to complete the project.
You can't carry all the puzzle pieces by yourself.
13. Respect and honesty get you a long way. 14. EVERYONE deserves a chance.
But, most importantly...
15. Never. Give. Up.
Keep playing, keep practicing and keep going. Everything that happens on or off the field is just preparing you for the curve balls life will be throwing at you once the game is over.
