1. Watching girl power movies like "John Tucker Must Die" or "Kill Bill" if you are feeling especially angsty...
2. ...Or watching Legally Blonde on repeat if you need a reminder that you too can go from fashion merchandizing major sorority girl to kick ass Harvard Law student and show your idiot ex how valuable you can be if only you set your mind to it. Okay, so maybe it is not the most realistic movie, but if Elle Woods can't inspire you to quit moping and find yourself before finding your Luke Wilson, I don't know who could.
3. Daydreaming about the day-after-Valentine's Day Kroger or Walgreen's run that will inevitably consist of buying several bags of 75 percent off Dove chocolates.
4. Gently weep into a bowl of Qdoba queso, because who needs boys (or girls; I don't know your life and I pass no judgement) when you have tortilla chips to be bae?
5. Go with your equally single friends to see "50 Shades of Grey," careful to remember protective coverings for your seats.
6. Pick up some variety of Hoodoo to get back at the last idiot to break your heart.
7. Desperately re-read "Harry Potter" in the hopes of figuring out the ingredients for the love potion Amortentia that made Ron so loopy that one time.
8. Send flowers to yourself so that your roommates think you have some secret paramour.
9. Purchase one of these huge, oddly round plush animals. You know you really want one.
10. Change your language about it: Calling it Singles Awareness Day somehow takes the bite off of being alone on the day set aside every year for people to exchange cheap chocolates and stuffed animals.
11. Do yourself a favor and avoid alcohol. You know how wine makes you sentimental.
12. Send your loved ones Valentines. Remove the romantic connotations and take the opportunity to tell your friends and family members that you love them; your chronically single friends will appreciate this the most, since it is nice to have someone else buy the chocolate for you.
13. Dress up like you're going somewhere. Don't let yourself stay in pajamas ALL day long, as tempting as it may be.
14. Make a list of all of the things you love about being single. While for some of us the list might be shorter than we'd like, I would still rather be single at 19 than engaged or pregnant. Take life slowly and recognize how lucky you are to be young and free.
15. Remember that you are a whole person. So often we speak about significant others in terms of "better halves" and that antiquated notion that souls are made in pairs and that we are to spend our lives searching for our soul mates. Even if that were true, the likelihood that our soul mate so much as lives on the same continent or speaks the same language as us is incredibly slim and we will all probably settle for someone else who we meet by proximity; the best way to go about romance is to worry about yourself first, to make yourself the best version that you can, and to keep in mind that you are complete just the way you are and that if and when you find someone, they are just the cherry on top of a perfectly amazing person.
