Truth be told I'm not really a religious person. I was born and raised in the Roman Catholic Church but I'm not 100% sure I'm religious. But what I do know is that the Bible is full of encouraging and helpful words, and I find it quite amazing whenever I need some advice. So here are 15 bible verses, (translated from the New International Version), that helped changed my life.

1. "Turn from evil and do good; seek peace and pursue it."

Psalm 34:14

2. "Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love."

1 John 4:8

3. "I consider that our present sufferings are not are not worthing comparing with the glory that will be revealed within us."

Romans 8:18

4. " Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you."

Ephesians 4:32

5. "The Lord will fight for you; you need only be still."

Exodus 14:14

6. "Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good."

Romans 12:21

7. "Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrong. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres."

1 Corinthians 13:4-7

8. "Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go."

Joshua 1:9

9. "Jesus replied, You do not realize now what I am doing, but later you will understand."

John 13:7

10. "Humble yourself, therefore, under God's mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time. Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares."

1 Peter 5:6-7

11. "She is clothed with strength and dignity; she can laugh at the days to come."

Proverbs 31:25

12. "Do not be quickly provoked in your spirit, for anger resides in the laps of fools."

Ecclesiastes 7:9

13. "He heals the broken hearted and binds up their wounds."

Psalm 147:3

14. "Be on your guard; stand firm in the faith; be courageous; be strong."

1 Corinthians 16:13

15. "I can do all this through him who gives me strength."

Philippians 4:13

"I can do all this through him who gives me strength."

Bonus: "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only son, that whoever believed in him shall not perish but have eternal life."

John 3:16

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.
