Fall Break is the first real break of the semester. It seems like everyone has plans to go to the beach or to the lake, but all you want to do is lay on your couch at home and do absolutely nothing by yourself. I'm a firm believer that going home for Fall Break (if you can) is one of the best decisions you could make, and here's what to expect when you do.
1. Your parents treat you like royalty.
Do your own laundry? Nope. Make your own coffee in the morning? No way. Drive yourself shopping? I don't think so! Your parents will do just about anything for you when you're home because 1) they've missed you so much, 2) they know how hard midterms just were, and 3) they want you to come back for the next school break.
2. Your parents make you real food.
Don't get me wrong, the meal plan is pretty good, but nothing compares to a home-cooked meal. Just imagine all your favorites on one plate, for four days straight.
3. You eat way too much food.
You're not even hungry, but you're still eating. Your mom has probably made every dessert and bought every snack that you've ever liked since you were a toddler, and you just can't say no. I mean, you only have four days, and you'll go to the gym once you're back on campus, right?
4. You go back to all your favorite places.
Favorite restaurants, favorite stores that you don't have at school, IKEA... the possibilities are endless, but the time you have isn't. You say you'll go home to relax, but you just end up trying to cram an entire summer into four days again. It's still worth it.
5. You clean yourself up.
Hair cut, nails done, new wardrobe. You go to your favorite stylists and stores, and you leave home feeling better than ever. Cue hair flip.
6. You reunite with the best things in your life: your pets.
Yes, I did refer to my pets as people. They're probably the main reason you even decided to go home, because the separation anxiety is real.
7. You shop for the things you need.
Food, toiletries, dresses for recruitment. Going home for Fall Break means shopping at all the places you missed the most, and your mom will probably pick up the bill if it's a "necessity." Plus you conquer the recruitment stress early so you don't have to worry about finding dress colors that aren't in season over Winter Break.
8. You also shop for things you don't need.
Do you really need that fourth pair of boots? Of course you do! When is the last time you'll be back to shop at your favorite boutiques? It's better safe than sorry.
9. You catch up on all your shows.
You know your mom has recorded every episode of every "Real Housewives" franchise, "Scandal," and all the new fall shows that look soooo good. Now you can chill out on the couch, eat all the yummy food your mom made you, and catch up to the rest of the world.
10. You catch up with your high school friends.
Meet at Starbucks, order your favorite drinks, sit and catch up with everything they've been doing in college! Swap stories, gossip, do everything you used to do in high school, except you have no idea who the other one is talking about. That's the best part about going to a different school than your friends, though, you'll always have so much to talk about!
11. You have to pull all of your winter clothes out of storage.
You don't want to do it, but you have to. It's about to start getting really cold, and if you're from the South like I am, you're really going to appreciate that parka in November. Yes, November. Judge me.
12. You dread the fact that you have to pull out your winter clothes.
You're gonna be real grateful that you packed your sweaters and your Uggs, because it's going to be miserable by the time Thanksgiving comes around. But look at the bright side, cardigans and boots and warm sweaters kind of rock. Get ready for the comfiest time of the year.
13. You do not do any of the homework you brought home.
Did you bring home every notebook and textbook you own just to not even unzip your backpack once? Yep! You've still got a couple days before the test, right? Definitely enough time to pull a couple all-nighters. Enjoy your time at home, school can wait.
14. You realize you have to go back to the hell that is college on Sunday.
Forgetting all your worries and responsibilities for four days was so nice, what do you mean I have to go back and take more tests and write more papers? Okay, so it might be nice to see your friends again, but let's be real, I would much rather sit at home with my cats.
