14 Things To Do In Richmond

Don't tell me you don't have anything to do in RVA. There are so many things going on all the time. Go to the many malls or festivals and explore!

1. Go shopping!

In Richmond, we have Short Pump Mall, Stony Point, Regency Mall, Chesterfield Town Center, Carytown, Willow Lawn, and many others.

2. Go to a festival or concert.

Richmond has the Folk Festival, the Watermelon Festival, or the Richmond Jazz Festival. There are also many concerts that happen in Dogwood Dell, Innsbrook, and many others.

3. Go for a walk in nature!

There are so many options to get outside for a walk or run! You can visit Deep Run Park, Belle Isle, Brown's Island, Maymont, Byrd Park, and many others.

4. Go to the zoo!

The Metro Richmond Zoo has many animals to see as well as a "Safari Sky Ride!"

5. Go to the Children's Museums!

There is one located in the city and there is another one located in Short Pump! There are so many activities to keep you busy!

6. Visit Hollywood Cemetery!

You may think I am crazy for telling you to visit a cemetery, but there are some very famous people who have been buried there such as U.S. President James Monroe and also the President of the Confederate States of America Jefferson Davis.

7. Get a donut or a dozen!

Here in Richmond, you can find amazing donuts at Sugar Shack, Duck Donuts, or Krispy Kreme! Yum!

8. Go on a segway tour!

Segway tours are held downtown where you will tour different aspects and landmarks in Richmond. You can tour Hollywood Cemetery or Church Hill!

9. Visit the Science Museum of Virginia!

There is always at least one awesome exhibit going on at the museum. There is also an IMAX theatre inside!

10. Visit the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts (VMFA)!

Beautiful art is displayed in this museum all the time. One of the coolest, most beautiful exhibits I've seen there is the Chihuly exhibit, which was glass art created by Dale Chihuly.

11. Go on a tacky light tour at Christmas time!

In December, you can go on tacky light tours around Richmond that take you by limo to different homes who have the most extravagant Christmas light displays. You won't be disappointed.

12. Attend your favorite Broadway shows!

During specific times of the year, you can attend famous Broadway shows such as Wicked or The Lion King in the Altria Theater.

13. Go for a swim or kayak adventure in the river.

Richmond is most famous for the James River. If you go to Pony Pasture Park, you can go for a swim or take a kayak out and travel down the river. Watch out for the rapids!

14. Get yourself an ice cream treat!

Personally, I recommend Gelati Celesti. It is ice cream like no other. I am bias. It is the best ice cream I have ever tasted.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
