Sometimes the smallest things we took for granted are what we miss the most.

14 Things College Students Miss About Being Home

Let’s be real, most people can’t wait to leave for college, especially after they’ve spent 18 years of their lives growing up in the same town. We’re just waiting to get away from the norm, be independent, and make choices for ourselves. When daydreaming about college, it’s hard to think about what you’ll miss back at home when you’re too busy being entranced by your future at a university. Little did we know, some of the smallest things from your old life would make you miss home more than ever before.

1. Family

This one’s pretty simple; you look forward to seeing your family because you miss them. When you were living at home, being with your family every single day got pretty old. But now that you’re gone, you miss spending time with them even more. That even includes that annoying little brother of yours.

2. Your Bed

There’s something about waking up in your own bed in your room. It’s bigger, comfier, and just feels better.

3. Making Your Mom Do Your Laundry

It's great not having to do literally everything on your own while home like you have to in college. This includes that pile of laundry that’s ben piling up for about two weeks.

4. Real Food

I'm not just talking about the healthier options you can find at home, I’m talking about your mom’s home cooked meals that have never tasted better since you went to college.

5. Friends

Seeing your high school and long time friends that you grew up with is probably one of the best things to go back home to, so you can catch up and fill in each other on your lives.

6. Your Own Bathroom

It's pretty great going home and having a bathroom you don’t share with at least three other people.

7. Babies

Alright, it’s safe to say that the amount of babies you see while you’re in college is slim to none. When you do, you’re usually overwhelmed with cuteness.

8. Going to Places in Your Hometown

These would include the mall that’s super close to your house and the donut shop you went to every Saturday morning. Even if it’s the grocery store down the street, something about it is so appealing to you. You haven’t been there in the usual time gap that you would have, and going to these places, in a sense, is comforting and familiar.

9. Pets

Seeing animals in general is it’s own kind of excitement here; I’ve never truly experienced the word withdrawal until I came to college and there were no dogs anywhere. Going home to a pet that misses you is a great feeling.

10. Parents Buy You Stuff

They basically just really miss you, so they want to spoil you as much as they can when you’re home. So yes, ask for those Lululemon leggings or those new Nikes you’ve been wanting.

11. Getting to Drive Your Car

Being back at home, driving your car, and blasting your music is something I think all of us who don’t have our car on campus miss.

12. Being in the Quiet

It's so hard to be alone in silence when you’re in college, but getting to come home and have privacy and peace and quiet when you want is such a relief.

13. Connectable Wi-Fi

The Wi-Fi on most campuses really does suck, and it’s super frustrating - ask anyone. It’s pretty essential if you want a functioning life, honestly. Is it bad that this is a top thing to look forward to when going home? Nah.

14. Having Your Parents Take Care of You When You're Sick

Being sick is probably one of the worst things you have to deal with when you’re in college. You don’t know what medicines you need to take, and you basically need your roommate to drag you to the nearest clinic. Mom and Dad aren’t there to take care of you when you’re basically on your deathbed.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
