Being a best friend is a huge responsibility. Friends are there to make you laugh, friends are there to go to parties with, and friends can be fun to talk to, but being a best friend is so much more. When you form a bond so strong with another individual that you feel justified calling them your best friend you know that there
When you become someone's best friend there's a list of unspoken, yet well understood, promises that you just have to make. When you are lucky enough to have someone in your life who you can call your best friend there are certain things you should
1. To never let them drunk text their ex-boyfriends.
And to never let them drunk text anyone for that matter. Best friend's make sure that no bad decisions are made via text during their night out.
2. To be the first to like their Instagram pics.
"No one's liked my picture yet, can you go like it?" Every best friend has heard this one before. When the absolute tragedy of a picture with no likes has occurred best friends are there to help.
3. To understand what their different faces mean.
Whether it's a pointed face to let you know that someone you guys don't like is in the room or raised eyebrows to say that someone attractive is near, knowing their different facial expressions is an essential part of being best friends and the best way to communicate when other people are around.
4. To be consistently updated on their love and social life.
When something major happens with one of their friends or their boyfriend you don't need a backstory before they can tell you what happened. You already know everything that has been going on and you're constantly up to date with what's going on in her life.
5. To always tell them when they look ridiculous.
Whether it's too much makeup or a t-shirt that has been worn past its expiration date, best friends always let each other know when they look ridiculous.
6. To remember and randomly bring up shared inside jokes.
Inside jokes are one of the most important parts of friendships and a best friend should always remember and talk about them. Whether it's something hilarious that happened in middle school or a late night adventure that just happened last week, a best friend's job is to remember them and bring them up to laugh about.
7. To take care of them whenever they need you.
This is one of the most important parts of friendship. Whether your best friend is sick with the flu or just heartbroken over a guy, you should always be there when they need you to take care of them. That means supplying the chicken noodle soup and the chick flick movies and letting them breathe their germs on you.
8. To be their best-ever-wing woman.
Being a best friend also means being the best wing woman they've ever had. That means pointing out the cute guy in the bar that's staring at her, talking her up and making sure he knows just how amazing your best friend is, and also leaving when you should leave. (Also, not leaving when you shouldn't leave. Never leave your best friend alone with a creep.)
9. To keep all of their embarrassing secrets.
Being a best friend means knowing a plethora of embarrassing things that have happened to them, that's a given. But being a best friend also means that you keep those embarrassing events and secrets to yourself. (Unless you're laughing at her. That occasionally is acceptable.)
10. To treat their closet as if it were
You're always welcome to her collection of infinity scarfs and she's always welcome to your endless supply of band t-shirts. What's your's is her's and what's her's is your's.
11. To call them out when they're wrong.
There are certain people that you go to when you want to hear how right you are about everything you're mad about, but best friends are not those people. Best friends understand you and let you know that your feelings are valid, but they're also sure to remind you that you're not perfect and let you know what you did wrong as well.
12. To know their food and drink order by heart.
It's okay if they went to the bathroom when the waiter finally showed up to take your order. You already know that they always get lemonade and chicken fingers, so you're always able to order for them.
13. To only post the pictures you both look good in.
Even if you look like a supermodel in a picture, if your best friend looks less than her best you would never post it on social media. That's true friendship right there.
14. To love them unconditionally and always be there.
This is the most important promise. Best friends are always there for each other and always love each other despite the stupid decisions that they might make. Best friends are there when they're at their lowest, and they're there to support them when they're at their best.
They're there through every family drama, boy crisis, new relationship, and every exciting life changes. Being a best friend is a promise in itself to always be there.
