Having a best friend is one of the best things in the world. They're automatically the person you hang out with when you're bored, the person who truly gets you, and the person you trust with your life. It's all fun and games (mostly fun) until one of you has to move. At first, you think you can get through it, but once you realize the person you hung out with the most is gone, having a long distance friendship can feel like the end of the world. What will you do without your best friend when something funny happens or when you just need to vent? Although they’re just a phone call, text message or FaceTime away, it’s not the same. You can’t just call them up and ask them to sleep over, go on a crazy adventure or take on a random party with you. And in all honesty, it sucks. But all this time away from each other only gets you more pumped up for the day you’re reunited with your bestie. If you’re lucky, having a best friend is just like having a sister. No matter what, they’ll always be there for you.
Here’s why having a long distance BFF is the worst and best thing ever (mostly the worst):
1. You have no one to go on random long car rides with.
You guys would jam out to your favorite songs and laugh about how terrible your voices were. You would have your own dance party in the car. But now, when you’re listening to music and that one song that always pumped you guys up comes on, you skip it. It’s just not as fun to listen to without them.
2. No one else understands your sense of humor.
You and your best friend share the same sense of humor. You laugh until you cry about things that other people would find ridiculous. There’s no one else you could ever be that funny and weird with without having to worry about being mistaken as a crazy person. And now it feels like it's been years since you've laughed as hard as you do when you're with your best friend.
3. When they post pictures with other people.
“Pssh, I don’t care that they’re having fun without me.” Don’t even deny it. When you see them post pictures with other people, you get a tad bit jealous because you know you two always have the best time together.
4. You see other BFFs having lunch together or shopping, and it reminds you that you can’t go out with yours.
And you can’t help but wish you were close enough to your best friend so you could go out on random lunch dates.
5. Random things remind you of an inside joke you and your BFF have.
And they’re not there to laugh about it with you. But you text them anyway and spark up a conversation about hilarious old times (which only makes you miss them more.)
6. You never fight.
When you see your best friend every day, you fight about the smallest, stupidest things, and then five minutes later, you look at each other and laugh about how dumb that fight was. But since you don’t see each other as often, those dumb little fights don't happen nearly as often.
7. They’re the only person who can seriously read your mind.
“No, stop, I don’t even like him like that!”
*Your best friend gives you that look.*
“…OK fine, you’re right, I do.”
8. When you text each other at the same time.
BFF telepathy. And while you’re texting, you realize you were going to tell each other the same thing.
9. They’re always a text away to help you decide which selfie to post or which outfit to buy.
Sometimes you just need your best friend's opinion. You can't ask your mom or boyfriend because your best friend just gets you in a way no one else does.
10. The minute you step into their room, you go to their closet to see all the new clothes they've gotten since you've been gone.
....And you can also figure out which shirt you're going to be borrowing for the night. They don't even care since you barely borrow their clothes anymore. Sometimes they even offer! Which very rarely used to happen.
11. BFF withdrawals.
It feels so weird going from talking and seeing each other every day to going days without talking. So, you send them a random text saying hi just because you miss them.
12. But the distance doesn’t affect your friendship.
They’re still the only person you can go forever without seeing and still act like you saw each other yesterday. And with no hesitation, you catch each other up on the latest gossip and everything that has been happening in each other's lives.
13. You always know you’ll never have another friendship that’ll compare to you and your BFF's.
Yeah, you meet new people and go out with your other friends, but nothing compares to the bond you share with your best friend.
14. Saying goodbye sucks.
You hold back the tears and sadness because you know you’ll see each other again soon, and you'll definitely talk to each other at least every other day. But still, the thought of not having your best friend nearby saddens you like no other.
15. Back to reality.
Without your BFF, there’s nothing to do and most days consist of lying in bed and watching Netflix. (My best friend for the time being is the pizza delivery boy.)
