Being a college student, you are surrounded by success every day. You see your peers who excel in their field, professors who have dedicated their lives to their craft and students working diligently for four+ years of their lives to learning a certain profession.

It is hard in a sea of success to feel like you are beyond average. Do you want to stick out, but you feel like there is too much competition? Is jealousy controlling your ability to feel extraordinary? Here are 13 ways to transform your life from ordinary to extraordinary.

1. Pursue your goals with intention.

Never give something anything less than 100%. Work hard and pursue your goals with heart and intention.

2. Learn from your surroundings.

It is amazing all the knowledge that is right at your fingertips. Learn from your friends, professors and materials that are in your daily presence.

3. Feed your inspiration.

You can learn so much from what inspires you. Learn from and listen to your inspirations. They will teach and guide you.

4. Do not get caught up in the word “required.”

Read textbooks with the idea that this is something you can learn from and expand your worldview with. As opposed to viewing homework as a chore, view it as something that is making you a more well-rounded individual. Read for fun. Learn for fun.

5. Do not be afraid to ask for help.

Remember those people you look up to? Ask them for help! You can both end up sharing valuable information to one another.

6. It is OK to mess up.

Part of becoming extraordinary is messing up. Do not get down on yourself for mistakes. It is all part of the learning process. We bloom from moments of failure.

7. Make your environment extraordinary.

You have to be living within an extraordinary environment to become an extraordinary individual. This does not mean anything glamorous. It means to transform your space and places around you into something you are proud and comfortable within.

8. Focus.

Focus on what you want. Focus on your goals and dreams. Never put them on the back burner. They deserve your attention.

9. Pursue yourself.

You have to believe you can be extraordinary to actually be extraordinary. Therefore, pursue yourself and love who you are and what you want.

10. Give compliments and thanks.

Being kind and humble can help you to see your potential while still building others up. Jealousy will lead to negativity, which must be limited to live an extraordinary life.

11. Laugh.

Do not take things too seriously. Laugh at your mistakes and laugh at the goodness around you. Being happy and extraordinary go hand in hand.

12. Cultivate new interests.

Learning more about the world and the things you love with lead to a more extraordinary mindset. Open your mind to new challenges, people and places.

13. Decide now.

No more, “maybe next week” or “maybe next year” — the time to start living more than an ordinary life is right now. Focus on your goals and pursue them wholeheartedly. I promise you, you will start being more than ordinary.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.
