13 Ways to Enjoy Spring Break From Home
Pelfind

It’s almost here, the time of year that a lot of college students look forward to, spring break. That’s right, spring break, the week after your finish spring semester midterms where you get to relax and spend time with your friends and family.

Usually around this time of year, a lot of college kids make plans to head somewhere down south, where it’s warm and sunny. Over the years, channels like MTV and movies like Spring Breakers have only made this spring break idea appear even more glamorous and popular. The truth is though, this isn’t exactly what everyone wants to do during their spring break.

I will admit that I do enjoy the beach and the ocean; and I always enjoyed the idea of having a week off, especially after midterms. I always wanted to take the time to relax and spend time with my friends and family, but I never thought that I needed to go on a big trip; I don’t really like big crowds anyway.

Even though I didn’t really go anywhere big, I still managed to find fun and relaxing things to do; and a lot of them were within my budget, because let’s face the facts, the term “broke college student” is all too true. So, if you don’t have a big trip planned out for spring break, here are some things you can do over your spring break that will help you enjoy your time off.

1. Pet a dog

You can never go wrong with spending time with your furry friend, big or small.

2. Catch up on sleep to help you get through the rest of the semester

Let's be real, you NEVER get enough sleep during the semester.

3. Go Hiking

Even if you don't live in a mountainous area, you can get exercise and enjoy a hike through a big park.

4. Binge watch a series on Netflix

5. Take advantage of your loving family and enjoy a family meal

Mom/Dad's cooking will always be better than the food in the dining hall.

6. Look for babysitting jobs to make some money

7. Convince your mom to take you grocery shopping because your low on snacks

Have to have the good snacks in your dorm.

8. Take a day trip to the city

9. Go to an indoor trampoline park

Who said trampolines are just for kids?

10. Spend time with your family

11. See a movie

You probably don't have a lot of time to go see a movie during the semester, and even when you do you probably don't think about it right away. Now you can finally see that new movie.

12. Read a book

Whether you're finishing a book you started a long time ago, starting a new book, or rereading a book, read, it can be fun.

13. Go Shopping

You finally have more than enough free time to really go to the mall or the outlets and look for some cute outfits to refresh your wardrobe, so why not do it? When you start feeling guilty for spending money, remember, you saved yourself over thousands of dollars by not going away on vacation.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
