Moms are great... and you really miss your mom's greatness when you're away at college. You miss her telling you to put the pizza down or that it's time to get out of bed, because sometimes you don't have the will-power to put the pizza down or to get out of bed yourself.
The independence of living away at college is a double-edged sword; you love the freedom, but you miss the dependability of home (aka, the dependability of your mom). You know your mom is always there for you. But, seeing your mom's face on FaceTime and hearing your mom's voice on the phone doesn't even come close to her actually being there with you.

Here are some (of the many) times you miss your mom at college.
1. When you wake up in the morning and your mom's face isn't one of the first things you see.
2. When you start to get hungry and realize that your food options at school are nothing compared to what your mom makes at home.
3. When you go grocery shopping and realize that you know where nothing is, and your mom isn't there to say, "The bread's in isle 5."
4. When you go out to eat with you friends and you see a mom and daughter eating together at the table next to you.
5. When you have to re-stock on your hand soap and shampoo and you smell every bottle at the store to make sure it's the one your mom gets (because you want it to smell like home).
6. When you go shopping at the mall and ask yourself, "I wonder if Mom would like this," so you take a mirror selfie and send it to her.
7. When you're sick and really wish that your mom could be there with you, because her being there would make you feel at least 50 percent better.
8. When you realize something in your fridge expired three days ago, and you wonder if your mom would say it's OK to eat or that you should throw it away.
9. When you're overwhelmed with school and friends and life and just really need a Mom-hug.
10. When you handle something really well and wish your mom was there to see how you kicked ass.
11. When the TV show that you watch together comes on, and you wish you were watching with your mom.
12. When you're down in the dumps and you know that if your mom was here, she would be doing whatever she could to make you feel better (because no one knows you better or can cheer you up better than your mom).
13. When you get into bed at the end of the day and your mom's face isn't one of the last things you see.
