Your reasons are simple... convenience. You want to be close enough to everything on campus that you could possibly need. The hour long commute to your 8 am just isn't appealing at all. And while there are certain perks to on campus living, being an upperclassman in on campus housing is a very surreal experience that involves lots of patience. Try not to pull your hair out and enjoy these 13 thoughts you have while living on campus as an upperclassman in Friends gifs (because what else could explain it better?).
1. You always feel out of place.
While you have definitely been on this campus for more than enough time to learn your way around, you always feel like an outsider. Maybe it's the constant squealing, maybe it's the lanyard-wearing or maybe it's just the distinct behavior of freshmen. Regardless it is always just a little awkward.
2."Was I really like that?"
The answer is yes. But, you've learned and grown from your mistakes. No worries, everyone has to ask to go to the bathroom in class at least once before you really find your place in the world.
3. "Why do these freshmen have no understanding of how to move furniture?"
The constant elephant noise are insane. The first couple days of school are just a constant headache.
4. "Dating a freshman is off limits, right?"
Let's be honest, some of the freshmen are pretty attractive, and they don't have the wrinkled look of someone who has been around for a while.... it's oh so tempting.
5. "Do they really have to be so obnoxious about drinking all the time?"
Drinking is a part of college for a lot of people. But, watching the freshmen who are just now given the freedom to drink is exhausting. They don't have any idea what they're doing and constantly need help.
6. "How can I be so much cooler than the freshmen that want to BE me?"
Admit it, your pride kicks in a little and you get way too worried about being so much better than these annoying little 18 year olds.
7. "If I have to explain how to use your meal points one more time I may pull my hair out."
C'mon guys, it's really not that hard! You pick out what you want, you go up to the register and you pay. Where are you from? Did they not have food there? Yeah... that's what I thought.
8. "It's so expensive."
Living on campus is convenient and nice. No doubt about that, but the up-charge for the convenience is steep and at times. It is sometimes hard to find it worth it.
9. "No one cares about how hard your Psychology 101 class is..."
We all vent once in a while about how hard our classes are, but when a Freshman complains about a 100 level class when you're taking 18 credit hours of 300-400 level classes it is a little aggravating to have to fake sympathy.
10. "I have been eating the same four things in the dining hall for years. I am probably going to die of food poisoning."
Dining hall food is not always good. In fact, when it is all you have to eat every day it is definitely difficult to keep your meals interesting. While it is not something you think about as a freshman, you are definitely weary as an upperclassman who realizes just how much money you spent on a meal plan.
11. "I can't believe I sacrificed a bigger bed to sleep in this teeny cabin."
The beds on campus are notoriously small. Why on earth did you decide to sleep in a shoebox again? Oh yeah... because you want to see the world burn.
12. "Do the boys really have to smell so badly and walk around shirtless all the time?"
It is a bit excessive. We get it, you think you have abs. Now please put a shirt on.
13. "I'm a little afraid to tell my friends that I still live on campus."
The slight embarrassment is always looming and always awkward, but if they're really your friends they will understand.
So, while the situation may be awkward at times it is always an experience. Just try to make it through the year and remember that living 5 minutes away from your first class is absolutely worth the hassle.
