13 Things You Know To Be True If You Work In A Restaurant

Working in a restaurant creates the most unique people who learn to view the world from a different aspect. We may work in different restaurants but we all somehow manage to be the same. Here's to the people who have been in the same boat as me and can be easily spotted by these signs:

1. You never know the exact time you're going to get off

But once you hear those words "you're cut," you can't help but dance in excitement.

2. You have a special hate for those people that come in right before close

Guest: "What time do you guys close?"

Me: "In five minutes"

Guest: "Cool.. can I have a table for four?"

Me: "No."

3. And you hate them even more when they tell you their party is incomplete

Seriously, who comes in five minutes before close when the rest of their party will arrive in 20 minutes?

4. You constantly get blamed for things that are out of your control

"Ma'am, you can talk to my manager, I have no power here. I'm just trying to make money to afford my social life."

5. You hate needy people

"Can I sit somewhere warm?"

"I want to sit somewhere quiet."

"I don't want to be near kids."

OK?

6. And you feel guilty when you are needy at another restaurant

I'm sorry... I understand if you're annoyed.

7. Your only friends are your work friends

"So, do you want to hang out when we get cut?"

8. You're good at multitasking

You're a pro at this point. Nothing can phase you.

9. You use restaurant slang outside of work

"Behind:" (move). "Heard:" (I understand). "In the weeds:" (extremely busy). "Corner:" (I'm coming around the corner so you better not be).

Those terms are a part of your everyday vocabulary; it's basically like speaking another language that only restaurant employees understand. It's exclusive.

10. You constantly smell like your job

You are at work so often that you bring home the smell with you.. and it's not always pleasant.

11. You are always in an internal war between wanting to be busy but also wanting to be slow

You need the money, but you also need to go out with your friends.

12. You go to other restaurants and catch yourself judging the way they run things

Because all other restaurants suck, right?

13. You always tip at least 20 percent

No matter how bad the service may be, you know what it's like to be in their position.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
