13 Things We Forget To Thank Our High School Best Friends For

We all know that I could write a novel about our friendship and how much you both mean to me, but I figured I’d wait on that and write you a list of some of the wonderful things I forget to thank you for. We’ve been through so much together, and I can’t thank you enough for how you have changed my life, but I thought that this might be a good start.

1. Thank you for the tears.

Whether they were from laughter or just sentimental tears from reminiscing, you guys know how to bring on the waterworks. You can make me laugh like no one else can, and there are times when I get funny looks in class because I just remembered an inside joke of ours. Thank you for also being there to mop up the sad/angry/hurt tears as well, and for holding my hand through it all.

2. Thank you for always celebrating the little victories with me.

Those small moments don’t seem so monumental now, but they meant so much to me then, and you were both always there to share in my excitement. Even if it was as small as getting an A on that math test I was so worried about, or as big as getting my license, I know I could count on the both of you to literally jump for joy with me.

3. Thank you for including me as a member of your family.

I love getting advice from your mom, and hearing what’s new in the lives of your extended family members. I love that I have a favorite spot on your couch, and that I’m not allowed to even pick you up to go to dinner without coming inside for 20 minutes first.Thank you for making your home my second home.

4.Thank you for being so honest.

I can’t even think about some of the outfits I wore in high school without cringing, and I know the number of awful outfit choices would be higher if I didn’t have you telling me “no, go with the other shirt." Thank you for also telling me when I was in the wrong and that I needed to see it from a different perspective, even if I didn’t want to hear it.

5. Thank you for being the best mix of responsible and immature at the same time.

We have so many responsibilities now as we get older, but we still know how to have a good time. We still know how to lose our voices at a concert and dance like everybody is watching, but now, we simply don’t care. I love that we can always be silly together and that you both are always up for an adventure.

6. Thank you for listening to all of my rants.

You both are two of the people who actually care and don’t just nod along when I’m going off about how frustrating it is that I spilled tea all over myself, then couldn’t find the other shirt I wanted to wear, which led to me being late to class, etc. When other people just look at me weirdly, I know I can count on both of you to understand my random stream of consciousness.

7. Thank you for being on my home team.

Whenever something happens, you two are the ones I tell right away (if you aren’t already with me) and I know I can rely on you no matter what. Thank you for being there for me when I was stressing about which college I wanted to go to, and then being there when I opened the acceptance letter. Thank you for being the people I would call at 3 a.m. if anything happened, and for being the ones I would call to help me hide a body (just kidding!).

8. Thank you for taking the time to know me.

Thank you for knowing what my favorite snacks are and surprising me with them at random times, and thank you for understanding what I’m trying to tell you with just a look when I can’t say what I want to say out loud. Thank you for knowing who I’m talking about when I tell stories, and for understanding what I’m trying to say before I even finish my sentence.

9. Thank you for making our hometown more than just a hometown.

Even though it felt like there was never anything fun to do, we made our own mischief. There are so many memories scattered across our tiny town that I will never forget. Coming home for breaks during college is always so much more fun knowing that you'll be there, and that we can pick up our friendship like no time has passed at all. Our hometown has become the place where our friendship started and grew, and it will always hold a special place in my heart.

10. Thank you for being there for me from far away.

I can’t explain how appreciative I am to see your call during finals week to make sure I’m okay, or the texts you send before a job interview telling me I’ve got this. Thank you for picking me up when the rough times hit, and for sending all your love when you can't physically be here to hug me.

11.Thank you for completely changing my high school experience.

High school had its up and downs for me, and I know it would have been so much worse without the both of you.Thank you for being by my side when everything felt so uncontrollably overwhelming, and for always being my rocks, no matter the situation. Thank you for dealing with the ridiculous drama and for laughing about it with me now.

12. Thank you for not forgetting about me when we went to different colleges.

The distance could’ve gotten the best of all three of us, but we didn’t let it. I know a lot has changed since high school, and we’ve made so many new friends and experienced so much, but nothing makes me happier knowing we’re even closer now than we were when we saw each other every day in high school. Thanks for telling your college friends about me, keeping me updated on all of the fun times you had at school, and for meaning it when you said you wish I could've been there.

13. Thank you for being my best friends/my people.

So we all know the real term is "my person," but I changed it to my people. You’re the people who have changed my life completely, and who have made me a better person just by being your friend. You have given me so much, and for that I am forever grateful. You’re the people who are going to be in my life until we’re all old and gray, reminiscing about the silly crushes we had and what we wore to what dance. You’re the best of the best, and I still can’t fathom how lucky the awkward and slightly shy 16-year-old version of myself was to find and keep you both as my friends. Here’s to our past, our present, and our future. I am so crazy grateful to call you both my best friends.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
