13 Things Only Redheads Will Understand

It's not just a hair color, it's a lifestyle.

Being a redhead isn't just having red hair; it's a lifestyle. They say that blondes have more fun, but there's scientific evidence to back up what makes redheads unique, from the color of our hair to every other part of our body.

1. We're only about 1-2% of the world's population.

Which makes it super cool to come across a fellow redhead. There's a weird kind of kinship and understanding among redheads.

2. There's an annual redhead festival called "Red Head Days" in the Netherlands.

It's of course a place all redheads want to go before we die.

3. Our skin is really sensitive.

We put on sunscreen every time we leave the house. And now just on our face, but everywhere. Even if it's cloudy, sunscreen is still going on. And we're not just protecting ourselves from the sunlight, either. Redheads are more likely to be allergic to things like benzoyl peroxide and neosporin, meaning we always have to be very careful.

4. We're just really sensitive in general.

It's scientifically proven that redheads have a lower pain tolerance, meaning we're much more sensitive to pain. We also need more anesthetic on average (which I can attest to, after having novocaine wear off in the middle of getting my tooth pulled. Freaking ouch.)

5. Buying makeup is such a struggle.

Do I buy foundation that covers up my freckles? I want it to cover up my blemishes, but I actually like my freckles. And will this shade of orange lipstick clash with my hair? How about this pink one? And why don't they make an eyebrow pencil in red? I guess I'll just blend the blonde one and the brown one and call it a day.

6. But that doesn't stop you from trying crazy makeup trends.

I'll proudly wear orange and pink eye shadow and lipstick and rave about how I now look like a sunset with my hair.

7. We were probably either Ariel or Merida for Halloween.

Because after a lifetime of hearing that we look like them, why not?

8. We're oddly jealous of other redheads.

Mom, you don't understand, her hair is just redder than mine. I want mine like that.

9. And of course we love our redhead celebrities.

Prince Harry is obviously everyone's favorite royal, and who didn't want to be a Weasley? We also all wanted to be a young Lindsey Lohan, and we were heartbroken to find out Emma Stone wasn't a natural redhead. She still rocks it, though.

10. Other redheads also remind us of our family.

I know all my friends think that redhead guy is really cute, but he just looks too much like my brother for me to get excited.

11. We were probably bullied for it at some point.

Anyone who has seen that South Park episode has told me at one point that I have no soul. I also can't tell you how many times I've been asked if the "curtains match the drapes." Gross.

12. But we've been complimented way more times than we've been made fun of.

"It that your natural color?" "You're every hair stylists dream!" "People would kill for this color, you just can't get it from a bottle." "I hope you never dye your hair, it's too perfect!"

13. And no matter what anybody else says, you know being a redhead is the best.

Enough said.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
