13 Things Middle Schoolers Of The Late 2000's Know Too Well

Growing up in the 2000s had its ups and downs from iPods to the end of Bennifer. The early years of the decade were great, but so was the end into the 2010s. I attended middle school from September 2009 to June 2012. Although I vaguely remember everything that went on, certain things stuck out the most, including...

1. Soffee Shorts

Most of the girls in my gym class, me included, wore these until they were banned for being “too short” rolled.

2.Silly Bandz

Recess consisted of comparing and exchanging Silly Bandz with friends, even though they’re just oddly bent rubber bands that are so flimsy, they rip after a few hours.

3. UGGs

No matter the weather, UGGs were worn with everything from tights to dresses, shorts to jeans. As cute as they were presumed to be, all they did was make our feet smell worse than sweaty gym socks.

4.Song Lyric Statuses

The Facebook walls of all tweens were covered in Top 40 songs but that’s not all…

5. Tbh

Aside from “Can we pretend that airplanes in the night sky are like shooting stars?” being all over your feed, “truth is” and “to be honest” statuses were everywhere.

6. Call Me Maybe

Eighth grade consisted of having "Call Me Maybe" and Justin Bieber songs stuck in your head. No matter what, they were unforgettable.

7. Abercrombie Hoodies

Besides their denim miniskirts, Abercrombie and Hollister sweatshirts kept everyone warm year round.

8. Visiting the Apple Store to Take Selfies

We all had the latest technology, but preferred to visit the Apple store to take webcam photos with or without geo-filters.

9. Colored Braces

Depending on the season, our braces were colored to match it. If our favorite team was in the playoffs? We represent them with our smile.

10. Juicy Couture

Aside from Abercrombie & Fitch, Juicy Couture tracksuits were popular among us youngsters. They were perfect for going from the classroom to the gym.

11. Converse

When we’re not wearing our Uggs, we put on our Chuck Taylors and were good to go. Low and high tops are completely acceptable.

12. Paramore

Every tween girl goes through a grunge phase. Between wearing black and plaid, Paramore's "Riot" album was in everyone's iTunes library.

13. Bath & Body Works

The sweet smell of Pink Chiffon lingered in the air while our pencil cases were full of Pocketbacs. Some things never changed.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
