Things I Thought Should Be Shared

13 Things I Hold Close To Heart
Darcey Filsinger

1) I believe in the importance of being "Switzerland" while exploring each and every endeavor that comes acrossed you.

2) That there is power in words and sometimes they can hurt more than physical confrontation. They could leave or heal invisible scars that no one wants to bring up.

3) I believe in cherishing someone’s time with you. You can never be absolutely sure when your time together will be up. And, it’s important to hold the memories you share close to you, good or bad. They might be some sort of sunshine on a cloudy day, or a lesson you must remember.

4) Teachers. I believe in teachers. I think they don’t get enough credit as they should. They are these very honest people that have pursued some subject that they adore and want to share with you.

5) While I am here, I believe in passion. Not in the sexual way, but in the way that someone lights up when they start talking about something they adore with every fiber of their being. We they get absolutely and utterly tied up in the topic at hand that they just smile and ramble about the inner workings or how they feel when they encounter it.

6) I believe in the feeling that friends give you, when you laugh hard enough to make your sides hurt and you aren’t sure if you can catch your breath, but that doesn’t matter because they make you fearless.

7) All of the forms of love that there could possibly be. The man’s best friend kind, the long talks with your mom kind, and the kind that makes you stumble upon your words because you’re lost in a certain person’s eyes.

But, with all of these wonderful things to think about (and these are just some of the things I could actually put into words),

8) I believe in heartbreak. Enough stated.

9) I believe in the sad days. That sad days are for sad people because you can’t be strong all the time. And it’s so okay to not be okay.

10) And, I believe in the days where you lay on the floor, wishing that the sun wouldn’t rise because you don’t think you could make it to another sunset. Where you have one hand over your mouth to keep someone from hearing your tears, and the other is shifting from your stomach to your heart because they both hurt and you aren’t sure which one deserves the comfort more.

11)I believe in the good and the bad. That they are a chain reaction.

12) And, I believe we all have a path. A destiny, a fate. That we may choose to follow or disregard completely. But, I believe it’s there. And we can either choose to accept it for what it is, make it so much more, or go beneath it. And in each outcome, I believe you could make yourself a damn fool. Or you can make yourself legendary.

But most of all, I believe that there’s always tomorrow. Even if I may not feel like there should be, I believe it’s there. And, I guess that’s why I’m still here. Why I’m still going. Because of the infinite possibilities that tomorrow may bring.

13) I believe tomorrow is a wonderful concept.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
