The classic songs we would sing in the shower or in our cars have become songs that relate directly to our lives as college students. Throwback songs from years ago, especially these 13 tunes, reveal and exemplify the feelings, emotions, and experiences of college life.
1. "Do My Thang" -- Miley Cyrus
This song is a clear representation of why students come to college. We tell our parents, "Don't you worry 'bout me, I am going to be OK." College students are ready to do their own thing. We're ready to live our lives independently and create a name for ourselves.
2. "Me, Myself & I" -- G-Eazy
3. "What do you mean?" -- Justin Bieber
However, we've all been a little confused in one way or another at some point. Whether that is trying to figure out if your crush likes you back or if you just have no idea what the essay prompt is asking for, we've all felt this way before. You want to scream, "What do you mean?" to the world, and you pray that someone screams back a clear, understandable answer.
4. "Hello" -- Adele
Speaking of crushes, we've all said, "Hello from the other side." When your crush is on the other side of the room at a party, but you're too nervous to introduce yourself. The entirety of the song has nothing to do with this feeling, but that one line of the song resonates so perfectly that I had to add it to the list.
5. "Everytime We Touch" -- Cascada
And speaking of parties, what is one without this classic song. When we hear this, we grab our friends' hands immediately and belt the lyrics as loud as we possibly can. Then, when the beat drops, we jump up and down uncontrollably until the song ends.
6. "679" -- Fetty Wap
A couple songs have gone by at the party and the vibes are just not as lively as before. Not until this song comes on does everyone re-energize themselves and get ready for the infamous "Yeah baby...17." It's a fan favorite for sure and always gets people going.
7. "Danza Kuduro" -- Don Omar & Lucenzo
Then we shift genres and this song gets everyone's dancing pants going. Although most of us do not even know the English translation, we immediately channel our inner Salsa dancing skills. The song makes you want to travel with your best friends and dance forever.
8. "Don't Stop The Party" -- Black Eyed Peas
Yep. I'm talking about those weekend parties or "daygers" that you never want to end. We don't have to worry about waking up early the next day and we tell ourselves that we have all day to study and do laundry, which is true. The name says it all; we low-key get mad when we're having so much fun and the music suddenly turns off.
9. "4 Minutes" -- Madonna
You realize you have a paper due in any moment, four minutes to be exact. Maybe it's the situation where we only have four minutes to finish our final exam. I would have to say that the pressure of having to do these two things is equivalent to the pressure of having "four minutes to save the world."
10. "Hot n' Cold" -- Katy Perry
This song might be the epiphany of college. Everything we feel and experience is explained through the chorus of this song. Our day-to-day emotions change constantly. Our moods change immediately when something good or bad happens.
11. "Bad Day" -- Daniel Powter
Not every day is perfect. We've all had these days when nothing seems to be going right. Maybe you received a bad score on an assignment or maybe you got in a bike crash. "We sing a sad song just to turn it around," but these days are sadly unavoidable.
12. "Lean On" -- Major Lazer
Thankfully, we have friends and family that we can lean on when times get tough. Yes, we want to live life independently, but it is also comforting to be around those who support and love you.
13. "Best Day Of My Life" -- American Authors
Not every day is stressful and hard. Most days, we make the best memories with each other, we have dreams and goals that we want to accomplish, and when we experience this feeling of success, we feel as though we are on cloud nine. We've all had that one day where we thought we have the best day of our lives. "All the possibilities, no limits just epiphanies" does not explain college any better.
