12 Ways You Can Learn To Love Yourself

Life is an incredible journey. It has many twists and turns but it's ultimately beautiful. As much as I love this life, I've struggled incredibly with loving myself. It's been a process, the thing is, I try to let someone love me when honestly I can't love myself and that breaks me. You can love someone with everything you have, but if you don't love yourself, honestly you're just setting yourself up for heartbreak.

I've learned I'm a work in progress. There are a lot of things about myself I wish and prayed to God I could change. But I'm working on self-love and self-acceptance. I've found 20 different truths to help you on your self-love journey through life.

1. Accepting the things you cannot change.

There are a lot of things we will constantly hold onto, which if you're anything like I am, you can relate. I constantly try to change the outcome of things I feel will happen. And I try to change the toxic people in my lives into good pure wonderful people, which only in the end hurts me. I've learned through my journey that I've had to learn to accept what I cannot change in life.

2. Don't compare yourself to others.

You are uniquely made! Don't compare yourself to someone else. I know personally I've fought this battle so many times and have finally figured out that people grown and learn at their own pace and that I cannot be someone I'm not.

3. Learn to love the little things in life.

You know the saying "learn to stop and smell the wildflowers"? Learn to do just that. The most beautiful things in life are the things we don't always see, that we quite often pass through quickly. But take a second to notice natures unbelievable beauty. You may be surprised at what you'll find.

4. Let it go.

And by "Let it go" I mean let go of all the negativity and bad vibes in your life. Removing toxic people from your life can be such a huge weight lifted off your shoulder. I know for me personally I just removed some very toxic people in my life, and honestly I feel more free to do what I want. Learn to also forgive those who have wronged you. Holding a grudge doesn't help you.

5. Embrace the storms in life.

Storms in our lives are inevitable. They are bound to happen and there is nothing we can honestly do about it. The storms that do come into our lives often teach us a lesson that we've been trying to ignore. They are messy sometimes, but in the end you get a rainbow and you've grown a little more.

6. Capture every moment.

Take a camera. Everywhere you go. Take so many pictures and develop all of them. Memories should be made. Good friends mean everything.

7. Save and Travel.

Save your money and travel now. That one place you want to go. Whether it be Hawaii, or Italy or even exploring the islands of Greece, travel. Learn. Explore new territories. Live your life.

8. Smile more and laugh often

The more you smile, the more you'll feel happier, laugh at the the little things in life. Laughing is contagious and so is smiling. So start a trend!

9. Dance.

Whenever I feel down, I have my own dance party. Dancing is not only good exercise, but it also makes you feel all in all good.

10. Look at the sky.

The sky is pretty incredible. Get up early and watch that sunrise. Chase that sunset until it gets dark. Watch the stars in the sky illuminate the world.

11. Don't try to please everyone.

If you're like me you're a huge people pleaser. You're constantly trying to make everyone happy, which in the end makes you miserable. Stop trying to please people. People will often use that to their advantage. Stop trying so hard. You'll feel so much better.

12. Love who you are.

Love yourself unconditionally. Don't hate yourself. Enjoy this life you have been so lucky to live.Embrace each day with open arms and an open mind.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
