Sometimes we just love to have our minds blown by using facts as a combustive. Normally, such facts and stats come in the form of gigantic numbers and concepts that we have difficulty with wrapping our heads around. But our heads are capable of some marvelous things. For one, being able to find out about the entries on this list. Did you also know that our brains alone hold more knowledge than every encyclopedia on the globe? Well, here's your chance to add more fun one-liners to your eclectic networks of neurons and synapses.
1. The Human Nose
The average human can distinguish between about a trillion smells.
They get blocked and stuffy and make quite the sound when we blow them... but by God, they can smell a lot!
2. Deck of Cards
If you shuffle a deck of 52 cards with a riffle shuffle, chances are that exact order has never been seen before in the history of the universe.
You won't ever again have to be scared of never creating something original.
3. Outer Space
There is a gas cloud in the constellation of Aquila that contains enough alcohol to make 400 trillion trillion pints of beer.
How about a night out on the town in Aquila!?
4. Photons/Light
On average, it takes a photon 170,000 years to travel from the core of the sun to the surface.
That light from the sun is a lot older than the eight minutes it takes to reach us.
5. Atoms
Atoms are mostly empty space. If you took away all the empty space from the atoms that make up all the humans on Earth, the remaining mass could fit inside a sugar cube.
Let me rephrase: If we took the human race, squeezed every pocket of air and empty space out, i.e. had each atom immediately adjacent to one another, we'd all fit inside the volume of this sugar cube.
6. The Human Heart I
Every day, our hearts produce enough energy to drive a truck for 20 miles.
I love it when our hearts keep on keeping on.
7. The Human Mouth
Our mouths can distinguish more than a billion flavors.
Glad to know I'll always be able to try something new!
8. DNA I
The genetic possibilities of a sperm and an egg make it possible to create 300 trillion billion unique people.
We could be popping out babies until the end of time and never repeat an identical face. (Except of course our beloved identical twins... but they're born at the same time.)
9. The Human Heart II
Our hearts beat 36 million times a year and pump 2.4 million liters of blood through 90 thousand kilometers of blood vessels.
That's 98,522 times a day. 4,105 times per hour.
10. Jumbo Jets
There is enough fuel in a full tank of a jumbo jet to drive a fuel efficient car around the world four times.
I'd prefer spending my fuel on a road trip than on a flight where all I see is clouds.
11. A Billion Dollars
To make a billion dollars in one year, you have to make an average of $31.69 per second. That's a whopping $2,739,726.03 every day.
Can you believe some people have actually managed this?
12. DNA II
There is enough DNA in an average person’s body to stretch from the sun to Pluto and back 17 times. That's 3.67 billion miles x 17.
So if a black hole were to spaghettify us, we would end up being 62,390,000,000 miles long before being ripped into an even longer string of atoms!
