If your family is anything like mine, we love each other a lot. We understand that there are talking points that should be avoided but sometimes there are topic points that your grandma just can't avoid and you wish she would. While the holidays are a time to come together and enjoy each other's company, conversation can sometimes be a land mine, especially now that you are older and can understand and jump in too. So while you love and trust your family with everything, make sure to avoid these eleven topics as best you can for a safe and happy holidays:

1. Your Major

Your family probably doesn't understand your English, psychology, philosophy, or chemical science degree and what you are going to do with it (and Hell, maybe you don't either), which is exactly why this question should be avoided at all costs.

2. The Election

Dear God, this just needs to end in general, but especially at the dinner table filled with turkey and stuffing. Chances are, everyone has their own opinion and no one will be swayed to a different side while also passing the gravy boat.

3. Whether You Have A Job

Whether you are soon-to-be-graduate or just short on money, the pressure of having a job is steep. Dodge this bullet altogether if possible.

4. What You Are Doing After Graduation

As of right now, most college students are just trying to make it through the week, not the rest of their life.

5. Football

Most likely, your family has some differences when it comes to their favorite team or conference. Some competition is okay, but save it for that Saturday when all your favorite teams go head to head.

6. Your Relationship Status

Every year you either get judged because you don't have a significant other or you get judged because you have a different significant other than the previous year. Damned if you do, damned if you don't. Let's keep the significant other talk to a minimum.

7. Religion

Tread lightly. That's all I will say.

8. Your Grades

Most likely, your professors are too busy to even post them so you have no idea either. But even if you did, you wouldn't want to gather the whole family around and chat about it. As my brother once said, B's and C's get degrees and that's all they should be concerned about.

9. How Much You Post On Facebook

College is a special Facebook vortex where you actually have to always be on Facebook and posting for some reason or another. So when your aunt gives you a hard time, just grin and bear it.

10. How Much Data You Use

When your family shares a specific amount of data and you use too much, the topic of data can become heated in your direction. Caution.

11. The Amount Of Money You Spend On Food

Just fight back and question whether your mom and dad want you to starve.

12. Donald Trump

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
