1. Talk to someone.
Human Interaction is so important and sometimes we neglect our need to receive sympathy and empathy. Knowing someone else in the world can understand your anxiety, relate to you, and validate your feelings can be enough to boost your confidence.
2. Write down your thoughts
Studies show that communicating your stresses through talking or writing helps with self reflection. Anxiety can sometimes mask problems that are hard to confront and writing could give you the self-awareness you need to organize your thoughts and your life.
3. Yell
Whether you yell into a pillow or shout out into the sky, letting out the aggression that can sometimes build with anxiety is healthy. This method will prevent you from projecting your bottled up anxiety onto an innocent friend or family member. Remember that it is okay to feel angry when you have anxiety.
4. Spend time outdoors
Anxiety sometimes steals your breath away and not in a romantic way. Nature is such a good fix for anxiety because you can immerse yourself in fresh air and beautiful greenery (depending on the time of year).
5. Eat comfort food and stay healthy
If there is a food that helps you relax and reminds you of your better days, go out and stock up on it. It can be good to eat comfort food but remember to also hydrate with a lot of water. Anxiety can make you neglect your health but it is your responsibility to take care of your most basic needs.
6. Listen to music
Music can help you decompress and lyrics can often evoke feelings of understanding. Sometimes just the instrumentals can make you feel like the world empathizes with your stresses.
7. Exercise
We have all read at least one article or another that discusses the good hormones and chemicals that can be released during and after exercise. It can be tough to get to the gym but it is proven to help.
8. Go for a drive
A change of scenery can do a lot for you. Most college students are stressed out merely because they are on campus. If you can, leave the place that gives you anxiety for a little while and remind yourself that there is a large universe waiting for you to explore it.
9. Take a shower or a bath
Sometimes you just need to wash away the stresses of the day, literally. Showering is a good way to take a short break and relax. You can even listen to your favorite tunes and sing your heart out.
10. Make a to do list
Anxiety is often associated with feelings of being overwhelmed. Organizing your life on paper can make you feel like you are in control and help relieve your worries.
11. Entertain yourself
Some call it procrastination, I call it distraction. Maybe some call it both...
When I feel stressed, I just need a good laugh. Whether it is watching a funny video or spending time with friends, there is always something or someone to support you and make you smile. The options are endless for this method.
12. Do nothing (only for a little though)
Maybe you just need to give yourself a break and do absolutely nothing. Giving yourself ten minutes of no responsibility and quiet time can be good. Do not be afraid to just sit down and let yourself relax.
