With Thanksgiving just around the corner, it is no surprise to see the endless articles on how to make the most of the holiday with the little time we have with it family, and the key to a perfect turkey recipe (the secret is to baste every hour). Smiles and hugs steadily increase as the temperature drops and snow begins to fall.
It's our week of gratitude, or to give thanks for the things we already know we're blessed with. It's common for us to list the usual for the things we're grateful for in life. Our health, our family, our happiness. As a child, I thought I was I was cute by mentioning toilet bowl cleaner and dental floss as it was my turn at the dinner table.
Humor aside, there are small things in our life that we neglect though. The little things that make a moment a little more better and our smiles a little brighter. These are the things that go by unnoticed, slipping away as quickly as they pass. The things I am choosing to be thankful for, this holiday season.
- dog's excitement to when it sees its owner
-a really good cry
-the way your best friend's eyes crinkle after a joke
-the humorous anecdotes that make the greatest inside jokes
-a warm hug after a cold day
-the breath of fresh air following a lengthy laugh
-getting to be purely you, absent of judgement and worry
-a loved One's ability to notice when you're upset
-the moment when someone who really deserves to be happy, gets to be
-sipping hot chocolate the moment it's cool enough, but not too much so
-your parents "I love you" as you get off a call
And
-selecting the wrong link on a webpage and quickly clicking what you originally intended, and winding up at the right page.
Happy Thanksgiving.
