12 Things I Love About Coming Home Often

Coming home is a nice escape from classes and the stress of school.

Don't get me wrong, school is so fun with parties and friends, and of course the classes, but coming home on the weekends, even for just one night, is just so nice.

1. Doing laundry for free

It's slightly outrageous that I have to spend $1 for using the washer and $1 for using the dryer. It's even more outrageous that the dryers don't dry completely, and I have to spend another $1 to do a second drying cycle.

2. Not having to go out in the cold to get food

It is definitely not worth walking outside in freezing weather to get some subpar scrambled eggs and soggy french toast.

3. Seeing my parents

Even though I may get so annoyed with them when I'm home on long breaks, I do miss them more than anything.

4. Cuddling with my puppy

My dog and I have a love-hate relationship. I give her food, and she loves me. I pick her up and dance with her, and she hates me, but I will always miss her when I'm not home.

5. Sleeping in my own [big] bed

Twin beds are not fun, so when I get a chance to sleep in my king-sized bed, I take it.

6. Not wearing pants

My family has lived with me for 20 years, and it isn't uncommon for me to walk around without pants on, but it's awkward to walk into one of my five other suite mates without pants on.

7. Free food

Not only is the food in the refrigerator free, but it's also free when we go out to eat, because they know I'm a broke college kid.

8. Cable and DVR

I have it set up so that all of the shows I like are recorded, and they stay on until I get to watch them.

9. Good wifi

We all know the wifi can suck at school, so coming home to wifi that doesn't go out once a day is an extreme treat.

10. No drama

It isn't surprising that living with five other girls can cause some tension sometimes. Getting away from all of that is too nice.

11. Soup when I'm sick

I may be 20 years old, but I still love when my mom takes care of me and gets me soup when I'm sick.

12. Baths

Showering for as long as I want and taking baths is my definition of paradise.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
