As a junior in high school, people are constantly asking me what colleges I'm looking at and what I want to major in. My career choices have gone from princess to queen to teacher to architect to journalist. Although society has encouraged me to choose a realistic career path over the years, I still have dreams of becoming an amazing and unique journalist.

If you have a dream, then you should go for it. The only thing that's going to hold you back is you. So here are 12 steps to making your dream come true.

1. Believe in your dream.

This is essential because it motivates you to achieve it. If you really want to pursue it, then you will believe in it.

2. Write it down.

This not only solidifies your dream but gives you something to work toward. Plus, if you forget the details of what you want, then you can go back and look at what you wrote down.

3. Visualize your dreams.

This activates your creative subconscious and allows you to build internal motivation! You're basically mentally rehearsing your dream.

4. Take tiny steps to work toward it.

You realize that there is no perfect time to achieve your goals. You slowly start to focus on what you want.

5. Make choices that support it.

When you realize that your dreams are actually closer than you think to become a reality, your desire to live your dream becomes so much more intense.

6. Be specific in your plan.

Always have specifics because if you don't the generality of the idea is going to scare you away from your dream. So sit down, relax and get your thoughts down on paper.

7. Maintain confidence in your dream.

If you are passionate about your dream, then you realize that you are so much closer to reaching it than you think. Remember to trust yourself that you can do this.

8. Drop the excuses.

Surround yourself with an environment that will help you attain your goals. Instead of procrastinating, get off your sofa because the time to make things change is now!

9. Find inspiration.

Look around you or look up people that have always inspire you. Surround yourself with images of inspirational quotes, pictures, or whatever makes you happy.

10. Don't let bad habits win.

If you fall into sitting in your bed all day watching Netflix, then your life goals will probably never come true because you're not doing anything to promote them.

11. Learn from your mistakes.

It's OK if you hit a wall here and there. You're not perfect. Remember to not be so hard on yourself if your idea doesn't work out the first, second, or even third time. Continue to work hard and never give up.

12. Take action!

Always work toward your dreams and believe in yourself. After writing down your goals and visualizing it, you have finally put everything into place. Now it's time to start making calls, sharing your ideas, promoting yourself or making yourself an expert in whatever you decide to do as your dream.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
