12 Songs That Will Make You Like Country Music

Country music gets a bad rep. It's rumored to be all about pick-up trucks, cheating ex-boyfriends (or girlfriends), and dirt roads. However, those of you dislike country music probably have yet to realize that a fair amount of Carrie Underwood songs are actually about murder.

Yep. So technically, if you're a Law & Order fan, there's no reason why you shouldn't like country music as well (just go with me here). Sure, there are some classic country songs about love and road trips and all that jazz, but there's also many songs in country music that are all about revenge (which is probably why I like country so much). Here are 12 songs that will show you what country music is really about and will convince you to give country artists a chance:

1. Two Black Cadillacs -- Carrie Underwood

[rebelmouse-proxy-image https://media.rbl.ms/image?u=%2Ffiles%2F2016%2F11%2F17%2F636149391959104118795206078_tbc%2520gif.gif&ho=https%3A%2F%2Faz616578.vo.msecnd.net&s=767&h=91b6cc393ade865c411a5eb8d29588ddacd9b24f7d382952ef7d6b94202f0114&size=980x&c=2652091148 crop_info="%7B%22image%22%3A%20%22https%3A//media.rbl.ms/image%3Fu%3D%252Ffiles%252F2016%252F11%252F17%252F636149391959104118795206078_tbc%252520gif.gif%26ho%3Dhttps%253A%252F%252Faz616578.vo.msecnd.net%26s%3D767%26h%3D91b6cc393ade865c411a5eb8d29588ddacd9b24f7d382952ef7d6b94202f0114%26size%3D980x%26c%3D2652091148%22%7D" expand=1]

There's no way I could talk about country music without mentioning this song. It tells the story of a wife and mistress who team up to kill the cheating husband.

2. Mama's Broken Heart -- Miranda Lambert

[rebelmouse-proxy-image https://media.rbl.ms/image?u=%2Ffiles%2F2016%2F11%2F17%2F636149395223701637109547949_miranda%2520lambert.gif&ho=https%3A%2F%2Faz616578.vo.msecnd.net&s=577&h=a0d6bb60054eedab42b5e25a32c72793573f5d37f16d8b1ab88204ff3b04b082&size=980x&c=2923855195 crop_info="%7B%22image%22%3A%20%22https%3A//media.rbl.ms/image%3Fu%3D%252Ffiles%252F2016%252F11%252F17%252F636149395223701637109547949_miranda%252520lambert.gif%26ho%3Dhttps%253A%252F%252Faz616578.vo.msecnd.net%26s%3D577%26h%3Da0d6bb60054eedab42b5e25a32c72793573f5d37f16d8b1ab88204ff3b04b082%26size%3D980x%26c%3D2923855195%22%7D" expand=1]

Another cheating boyfriend, another classic song.

3. Even If It Breaks Your Heart -- Eli Young Band

It's a song that's about hope and inspiration, not revenge or murder...Wow!

4. Picture To Burn -- Taylor Swift

[rebelmouse-proxy-image https://media.rbl.ms/image?u=%2Ffiles%2F2016%2F11%2F17%2F636149399230122339-530997712_picture%2520to%2520burn.gif&ho=https%3A%2F%2Faz616578.vo.msecnd.net&s=174&h=ef5d2c822798e50608f5b1129e667000c6fb02801fb5d24490cf1913e5d5aa29&size=980x&c=4119672394 crop_info="%7B%22image%22%3A%20%22https%3A//media.rbl.ms/image%3Fu%3D%252Ffiles%252F2016%252F11%252F17%252F636149399230122339-530997712_picture%252520to%252520burn.gif%26ho%3Dhttps%253A%252F%252Faz616578.vo.msecnd.net%26s%3D174%26h%3Def5d2c822798e50608f5b1129e667000c6fb02801fb5d24490cf1913e5d5aa29%26size%3D980x%26c%3D4119672394%22%7D" expand=1]

Yeah, we're back to revenge. Also, those of you who haven't listened to Taylor Swift's first album are missing out.

5. Fancy -- Reba McEntire

I can't talk about country music without mentioning the classics.

6. Stupid -- Kacey Musgraves

[rebelmouse-proxy-image https://media.rbl.ms/image?u=%2Ffiles%2F2016%2F11%2F17%2F636149403384615312-1796164313_musgraves.gif&ho=https%3A%2F%2Faz616578.vo.msecnd.net&s=435&h=1abf2b28102785cf692965fdfc7a84a4bfcc46478055fd0e1c22236097d48515&size=980x&c=1420131320 crop_info="%7B%22image%22%3A%20%22https%3A//media.rbl.ms/image%3Fu%3D%252Ffiles%252F2016%252F11%252F17%252F636149403384615312-1796164313_musgraves.gif%26ho%3Dhttps%253A%252F%252Faz616578.vo.msecnd.net%26s%3D435%26h%3D1abf2b28102785cf692965fdfc7a84a4bfcc46478055fd0e1c22236097d48515%26size%3D980x%26c%3D1420131320%22%7D" expand=1]

It's 3 minutes of Kacey Musgraves singing about how stupid love is. Country music tells it like it is.

7. Before He Cheats -- Carrie Underwood

[rebelmouse-proxy-image https://media.rbl.ms/image?u=%2Ffiles%2F2016%2F11%2F17%2F6361494048823656621010108367_before%2520he%2520cheats.gif&ho=https%3A%2F%2Faz616578.vo.msecnd.net&s=853&h=424688b6541aafa8a1c00cbbfa406f3521e41e1218dda4c37cdafef8f215d251&size=980x&c=9838015 crop_info="%7B%22image%22%3A%20%22https%3A//media.rbl.ms/image%3Fu%3D%252Ffiles%252F2016%252F11%252F17%252F6361494048823656621010108367_before%252520he%252520cheats.gif%26ho%3Dhttps%253A%252F%252Faz616578.vo.msecnd.net%26s%3D853%26h%3D424688b6541aafa8a1c00cbbfa406f3521e41e1218dda4c37cdafef8f215d251%26size%3D980x%26c%3D9838015%22%7D" expand=1]

Possibly the most famous (or infamous?) country song. What better way to get revenge than ruining someone's car?

8. Better Man -- Little Big Town

This recent hit was penned by Taylor Swift and given to the band "Little Big Town." It's a brutally honest song that tells the story of the guy she could have stayed with if he was a better person.

9. Colder Weather -- Zac Brown Band

Country music has no problem calling people out, especially those who can't keep their promises.

10. Chocotaw Country Affair -- Carrie Underwood

In this song, a married couple goes on trial for murder and refuses to give each other up. It's like a "Law and Order" episode told in four minutes.

11. Blue Ain't Your Color -- Keith Urban

Another semi-optimistic song.

12. I'd Lie -- Taylor Swift

This unreleased song is old country T-Swift and probably one of her best.

Go fourth and find your inner Southerner, y'all! *cringes*

An open letter to my father

What you did sounds dumb to me

An open letter to my father
The Truth About My Parents' Divorce

Considering im 18 now & you're one of the best men i've ever met since you have a child; me. I want you to know that I love you, more than anyone, I love you. I don't forgive you for the way you hurt my mother. I'm hurt because you broke our family. Thing went down hill the day you found Laquita. You we're distant & shortly after my mother turned into the coldest, saddest women to walk past me. She's my best friend & so are you. Not one day goes by where I don't wonder what she did wrong. How on earth could you trade your family & the women who loved you unconditionally for a home wrecker? Sounds dumb to me.

Is God Reckless?

Exploring the controversy behind the popular worship song "Reckless Love"

Is God Reckless?

First things first I do not agree with people getting so caught up in the specific theology of a song that they forget who they are singing the song to. I normally don't pay attention to negative things that people say about worship music, but the things that people were saying caught my attention. For example, that the song was not biblical and should not be sung in churches. Worship was created to glorify God, and not to argue over what kind of theology the artist used to write the song. I was not made aware of the controversy surrounding the popular song "Reckless Love" by Cory Asbury until about a week ago, but now that I am aware this is what I have concluded. The controversy surrounding the song is how the term reckless is used to describe God's love. This is the statement that Cory Asbury released after many people questioned his theology regarding his lyrics. I think that by trying to clarify what the song was saying he added to the confusion behind the controversy. This is what he had to say,
"Many have asked me for clarity on the phrase, "reckless love". Many have wondered why I'd use a "negative" word to describe God. I've taken some time to write out my thoughts here. I hope it brings answers to your questions. But more than that, I hope it brings you into an encounter with the wildness of His love. When I use the phrase, "the reckless love of God", I'm not saying that God Himself is reckless. I am, however, saying that the way He loves, is in many regards, quite so. What I mean is this: He is utterly unconcerned with the consequences of His actions with regards to His own safety, comfort, and well-being. His love isn't crafty or slick. It's not cunning or shrewd. In fact, all things considered, it's quite childlike, and might I even suggest, sometimes downright ridiculous. His love bankrupted heaven for you. His love doesn't consider Himself first. His love isn't selfish or self-serving. He doesn't wonder what He'll gain or lose by putting Himself out there. He simply gives Himself away on the off-chance that one of us might look back at Him and offer ourselves in return. His love leaves the ninety-nine to find the one every time."
Some people are arguing that song is biblical because it makes reference to the scripture from Matthew 28:12-14 and Luke 15. Both of these scriptures talk about the parable of the lost sheep and the shepherd. The shepherd symbolizes God and the lost sheep are people that do not have a relationship with God. On the other hand some people are arguing that using the term reckless, referring to God's character is heretical and not biblical. I found two articles that discuss the controversy about the song. The first article is called, "Reckless Love" By Cory Asbury - "Song Meaning, Review, and Worship Leading Tips." The writer of the article, Jake Gosselin argues that people are "Making a mountain out of a molehill" and that the argument is foolish. The second article, "God's Love is not Reckless, Contrary to What You Might Sing" by author Andrew Gabriel argues that using the term reckless is irresponsible and that you cannot separate Gods character traits from God himself. For example, saying that God's love is reckless could also be argued that God himself is reckless. Reckless is typically not a word that someone would use to describe God and his love for us. The term reckless is defined as (of a person or their actions) without thinking or caring about the consequences of an action. However, Cory Asbury is not talking about a person, he is talking about God's passionate and relentless pursuit of the lost. While I would not have chosen the word reckless, I understand what he was trying to communicate through the song. Down below I have linked two articles that might be helpful if you are interested in reading more about the controversy.
