12 Signs You're An Alpha Gam

Sweet Home Alpha Gamma.

12 Signs You're An Alpha Gam

1. Squirrels are your spirit animal.

You replace song lyrics from girl to squirrel (who runs the world?) and buy anything that even remotely resembles a squirrel. You also can't help it when you share the same attention span as them. And, if you're lucky like me, you get to see them all over campus and are constantly reminded of you're sisters.

2. You never use our full name.

Most likely, you never actually refer to yourself as an Alpha Gamma Delta. It's always something shorter and almost always Alpha Gam.

3. Red, Buff, and Green are more than Rasta colors.

You're all too familiar with this less-than-appealing color combination, but you embrace it anyway. You also wouldn't be caught dead referring to one of our colors as yellow. It is buff.

4. You know what it means to Live with Purpose.

Our purpose gives you purpose. It's your daily reminder on how to live your life and each line means something special to you. You know it backward and forward, but you still have some occasional trouble with line five (it was the hardest line for all of us).

5. Georgia Dickover.

We all know her. We all love her. We all aspire to be her. Plus, shes probably the only founder you can actually name.

6. We're all sisters.

Whether they are from another school or from another decade, every Alpha Gam is your sister. We share the same values, traditions, and most importantly, the same letters. Our letters bind us together, and we know that whoever we come across that's wearing them is someone we can count on.

7. Karen McCullah Lutz is potentially your favorite sister.

She's the screenwriter for "10 Things I Hate About You," "House Bunny," "Legally Blonde," and most importantly, "She's The Man". She portrayed females in dominant roles and showed that you should never underestimate a woman, just as we know to never underestimate an Alpha Gam. Besides, without her we wouldn't have the bend-and-snap or the blessing of Channing Tatum and Amanda Bynes (pre-psychotic break) to come home to after a long day.

8. Doughnuts.

National Doughnut Day is equivalent to any other holiday for us. Sure, it may be joke, but let's be honest, who doesn't love donuts?

9. alphagamihq is your insta goal.

Being featured on IHQ's Instagram is like being famous for a day. Everyone in your chapter tags them constantly and we all aspire to make it on their page before we graduate. The best part is, once you do get featured, you can count on all your sisters tagging you in the comments and showing their support!

10. Our hand sign.

You've practiced our sign a thousand times and can't stand when it's done wrong. You've also had to take way too many of the same picture just to get your hand tilt right so that it doesn't look like you're just making a triangle.

11. Big-Little Reveal.

From the moment you got your bid, you couldn't help but to think about your future big. Luckily, you didn't have to wait long either because you met her that same week. Sure, it was a fast process, but it only made you feel that much more at home. Besides, when it came time to get your own little, you're not sure you could have waited any longer!

12. You couldn't imagine repping any other letters.

Alpha Gamma Delta is more than just your sorority, it's your home, and you wouldn't want to live anywhere else.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
