Your first summer home from college can make you feel a bit queasy. You come home, and people pull you every which way. Everyone wants to see you, and everyone wants to know where you've been and what you've been up to. The amount of explaining required can be overwhelming! But your best friend? Your best friend is really the only person that you can just pick up where you left off with. And at a time when you're struggling to balance the new fun of being a young adult and the responsibilities of life off campus, your bestest best friend might be just the person you need right now. Here's why:
1) They Know Your Struggles Already
The bottom line is that your best friend knows the real you. They know your family, your other friends, they know how much you can't stand people who chew their gum real loud or the f*ckboys who keep pestering you. They know what bothers you because these things actually bother them now.
2) They "Get You" Without Any Explanations
Your best friend does not really care why you keep wearing harem pants and droopy tank tops. They don't care why you have to deal with them doing yoga all over the place just to get out of bed in the morning, or when they have to finish their text because they have to fully concentrate on the response you make to whatever they just said. They don't care, because even though you're always pulling this kind of nonsense, it just comes with the package. And that stupid face that you keep on making—they stopped commenting on it only because they know by now that you will never stop being an idiot.
3) They 100% Want To Make Sure You're Happy
Your best friend literally does the dumbest things in order to make sure that you're comfortable and happy. They will find the "perfect guy" for you, and they will stalk him in order to make sure that he's worthy. If you party, they will go with you just to make sure that no one's creepin.' They will be the person behind the newspaper keeping a close eye on your date behind them if need be!
4) They Will Go To Ridiculous Lengths For You
Again, seriously, your best friend would do anything for you. They might even send you pictures of horses everyday or dance on cue because they know that it makes you laugh. Because you need it! A good laugh, I mean.
5) They Will Bail You Out, No Questions Asked
They don't care that you lost your cell phone again, they will find it! And if your own date is going horribly, they won't hesitate to call you and say that someone had a twerking accident while falling down the stairs at your house, just so that you have a sweet escape.
6) They Will Not Tolerate Someone Giving You Crap
If the creepy man at the table next to you guys is trying to pick you two up and the "get lost" stare only leads to them to seeing you as the prized bait, they will do everything in their power to literally inform the creep that he very much so needs to get lost. And when another girl starts a rumor about you? Oh, forget it, that girl is toast without butter.
7) They Always Listen
Your best friend is truly the only person that will sit there and listen to you ramble on and on for days about something that absolutely makes no sense to them whatsoever. Why? Because they know you just have to get it all off your chest. And then when you're done, they will tell you why it makes no sense.
8) They Only Help You Change If You Truly Need It
Your bestie does not want you to become someone you're not, that's for sure. But if you're struggling with feeling confident or solving a problem, they will not hesitate to go shopping for the right pair of jean shorts with you, or to tell you what makes you so beautiful, or to give you a reality check. Because again, you need it. And your best friend needs you to be the best that you can be.
9) They Sometimes Know You Better Than You Do
No one has ever truly been able to lie to their best friend and get away with it. This person knows you; they know when you're doubtful, and they know you're only lying to yourself about how good a singer you are, or how smooth you think you are. Seriously, they know you. So quit playin'!
10) They Do Not Hesitate To Give You a Reality Check
Your best friend knows when you're complaining about something so insignificant it's ridiculous. They know when you're taking things for granted or have completely stopped being reasonable. And because they care, they will tell you (whether you like it or not).
11) They Always Bring Out The Best In You
Again, your best friend truly just wants you to be the best that you can be, to reach your fullest potential. They are honest because you need to hear it, and they are content when you get what you want because you made it clear that you want it. You're always laughing over dumb sh*t, and no one can bring you down in their presence without them doing something about it.
12) They Literally Love You
And last, even though (let's be honest) this list could go on forever and ever, your best friend truly loves you. They love you because at this point, the two of you are so stuck together, so attached at the hip, that even when you're arguing (which is constantly), you still could not go a day without their input. And no matter how ridiculous the two of you are together, you can't help it. You just don't care!
