Summer vacation in high school was always great, but summer vacation in college is even better. Why? Because you have a longer break, usually three and a half months instead of two and a half months. Also, you have more freedom which means more adventures. Summer is a time to take risks and create unforgettable memories with your favorite people in the world. So, here are some adventures that are guaranteed to spice up your summer!
1. Go to a concert (or 10).
There is nothing like a summer concert, where you can dance to and sing along with your favorite music without a care in the world.
2. Spend a day thrifting.
This way, you still get to shop, but you save a whole lot of money. An added bonus is getting to make fun of trends from the 80s and creepy dolls who are inexplicably missing an eye.
3. Road trip!
Spending hours and hours in a car with your favorite people, jamming to great music, and devouring snack foods? Count me in.
4. Go to Cedar Point.
America's rockin' roller coast! Of course, if you don't live near the best amusement park in the world, a more local one will suffice.
5. Visit the local art museum.
Art museums are great places to experience culture, while taking aesthetically pleasing pictures that you will inevitably post on tumblr.
6. Go to the beach.
This is an item that I plan on checking off of my bucket list this summer! But, if you don't have the time or money to travel to the ocean, then you can always settle for the nearest lake or river that has a beach.
7. Go camping.
I'm not a huge outdoorsy person, but everyone should experience the beauty of sleeping under the stars at least once. The only not-so-fun part is having to "do your business" outside, but it's a small price to pay for a breathtaking view.
8. Stay up and watch the sunrise.
Spending a night with your best friends, talking, dancing, and watching movies is incredibly special already. But, staying awake long enough to go outside, sit side by side, and watch the sunrise will make the night even more memorable.
9. Read all of the books that you never had time to read during the school year.
Getting lost in an amazing book is one of my favorite past times, but it's difficult to find the time to read for pleasure when you have several books that you're forced to read for your classes. That's why summer is a great time to catch up on your leisurely reading! Even if you're not normally an avid reader, I would suggest that you try to find some books that you enjoy because it is truly magical to just lay outside and lose yourself in an incredible story.
10. Go to the zoo.
Zoos are wonderful for two main reasons. One, you get to see exotic animals that you would otherwise never come across. And two, they sell a lot of delicious food, even if it is a bit pricey.
11. Explore a place you’ve never been.
I'm not talking about traveling to Iceland and exploring the beautiful countryside, although that would be amazing. I'm talking about going anywhere that you haven't been, even if it's a random park in the next town over. Spend a day with the people you love, getting to know a corner of the world that you've never seen before.
12. Try something that you’ve always been afraid to do.
Personally, the fear that I plan on facing is swimming and I will do this with the help of my very capable friends. Maybe you've always been afraid of heights, so you can confront that fear while on your trip to Cedar Point. Either way, it's important to take risks because some of your best memories will be when you do something that's outside of your comfort zone.
