12 Lessons Everyone Needs To Learn

Sometimes, life can get a little hectic. Whether your job, school, parenting, or growing up, is the reason behind your stress, it's important to not let yourself get to the point where you have so much going on that your thoughts blend into one another and you find yourself paralyzed in a crowded mind. When you get like that, read these.

1. Be present. Stop thinking of the future and all the responsibilities it holds, you don't have to deal with that today. Stop thinking of the past, it's over and done with, be thankful that it has shaped you into who you are today. Be Present, take risks, and enjoy right now.

2. Stay humble. So many of us walk around thinking the worst won't happen to us. We see tragedy happen everyday, and yet we think we're all going to see tomorrow. Tomorrow isn't guaranteed, so give your family an extra hug, tell your friends how much they mean to you, and say it so much that they'll never question it, give your pet an extra treat or two, and make sure you don't leave anything unfinished. It's a morbid thing to think about, but you never know what tomorrow is going to bring.

3. Take risks. Fear can be a good thing. It stops you from doing anything dangerous, but not everything that sends butterflies in your stomach is life threatening. You're not going to die by joining the club that you're afraid to do by yourself. Go out with the guy who asked you on a date. Take the class with the professor that everyone hates. If it goes south, it's a lesson, which is still something to be thankful for. If I let my fear control my life I wouldn't have found my place in this world, nor would I have found the friends that I'm thankful for everyday. In the end, the risk, is always worth it.

4. Stop expecting. Expectations are high these days. Which means so much is expected from us that it's almost overbearing. The hard truth is that you're probably not going to find your prince or princess if you are making everyone a frog. Don't write someone off if they don't automatically meet your expectations. Everyone is different. Everyone has something to bring to the table, you just have to look for it. Just think, that frog turned into a prince eventually.

5. Let yourself be happy. A concept that could be so easy, but some people put their happiness last which makes this concept almost unreachable. I know it's hard to go against the grain, but someday you have too. You have to stop thinking about what will make everyone else happy and start doing what you want to do. If people care, they aren't worth being in your life. You have to put yourself first.

6. Feel. Try allowing yourself to feel the feelings that you try to avoid, you will see a difference. "You shouldn't try to stop everything from happening." It's the most important sentence in this quote because the truth is, you're supposed to feel everything. The moment you decide to embrace all those feelings and take it in is the moment you have become a better version of yourself. It may be uncomfortable, or even embarrassing, but you need to feel them to grow. If you avoid these uncomfortable feelings you may miss out on something really special.

7. Have fun. You may be young, or you may be old reading this, but listen, age is but a number ladies and gentlemen. Go out into the world and enjoy yourself! It doesn't matter how old you are. If you have the energy to do something you want to do, GO DO IT! Again, you never know what tomorrow will bring. So make sure that you have some fun every day of your life.

8. Relax. If you're like me and are in college, you're probably feeling levels of stress that you've never experienced before. This, my fellow peers, is the quote for you. School is important, yes, but so is your mental health. As the years go on in college, the work gets harder. I bet you've learned to run on only a couple hours of sleep, and pulling all-nighters probably a regular thing for this butyou, it is for me. It took me a while to realize I'm thankful that I did- when you spend everyday stressing on what's due, when it's due, and how you're going to get it done, you never give your brain a break to rest, it's. not. worth. it. It'll all eventually eat at you. It's happened to all of us. So, learn to time manage yourself. Schedule time for work, but please, please schedule time for fun too. You have one shot at college, don't waste it by stressing yourself out. No matter what your major is, everyone has time to relax and go have some fun. It's so important to put down the books for a bit and relieve some stress.

9. Embrace bad situations. People go through a lot, everyone has a story. Bad things happen everyday, and it may take awhile, but you need to learn to find the positive in every bad situation. Trust me, there is one. You have to appreciate every bad you go through, because it'll teach you something, it'll make you appreciate someone or something that much more, it'll make you stronger, and I think that's something to be thankful for.

10. Forgive and live. You'll get screwed over time to time, but don't let that ruin you. If you get screwed over or hurt, in any aspect of your life, don't let that make you hateful. Take that experience, learn from it, forgive anything that needs forgiving, and move on. The world is too big, and too bright for you to hate it.

11. Stop judging people. People are who they are, they aren't going to change for you, and they shouldn't have too. Accept them even if they don't accept you. Be the bigger person. If what they are doing isn't hurting you then don't waste your energy thinking about it. You be you, let others be them, simple.

12. Live for you. Society tells us to follow the rules and as you get older, the more rules you get. You all know societies norm. You go to school, graduate, work, and have a family in there somewhere. It seems like so many people are afraid to jump off that bandwagon and do what they want to do. Ladies and gentlemen, this is YOUR LIFE. If you are not happy working that 5 to 9 job, quit it. You will find the means to survive, I promise. Stop living your life based on societies norms, if traveling the world will make you happy then quit that job you hate and go. Don't just exist in this world, live it.

If it means anything- we're all alright.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
