Try them all!

11 Ways To Be Happier

With so many different things depressing us lately, like finals, being single and Donald Trump, it really takes a lot for us to find ways to smile and persist in bringing happiness into all the things that we do every day. Many times we just lounge around and aren't in the mood to talk to anybody. Often times we see people who look so much happier than all of us and wonder how they do it. We try to smile as much as we can but sometimes it's just not worth the effort. So what is this mysterious key to happiness? Turns out there are 11!

1. Stop caring so much what other people think and take pride in who you are.

Why would you want to change for someone else anyways? If you're hungry, eat! Don't worry about "looking fat." If you want to go out without makeup, who is stopping you?

2. Give yourself a social media break and get out into the real world.

All anyone really posts on social media these days is either highlights of their lives, which make you think your life sucks, or posts about things going around the world that depresses you even more than you already are. By taking a break from social media, you will start to enjoy the smaller and more important things in life, you will start to realize everyone else's life isn't as perfect as it seems!

3. Wear something fun just for the heck of it!

It's amazing really how much influence what we wear has over how we feel.

4. Spend time with loved ones.

This sounds like a given, but most college students don't get to do this when they have to worry about classes, work and extracurricular activities. Spending time with those you love will make you feel loved in return and love will make you feel happier!

5. Take some time every week for yourself.

Find ways to pamper yourself at least once every week. This could mean taking a nice evening walk around the block or going to the spa. Whatever you decide to do, make sure you give yourself the alone time you so desperately need.

6. Watch a Disney movie.

Hey, you loved them as a kid, right? The silly characters, bright colors and catchy songs are just what you need to brighten your day.

7. Get some sleep!

You are going to be in an irritable mood if you do not sleep enough. Now, for most college students, sleeping for eight hours a night is a rare beauty. And if you can't manage to do that, don't worry. What you should try is taking small naps throughout the day to keep your energy levels up.

8. Try something new.

Go join a new club, go to a new restaurant or put on that television show that everyone has been talking about. You never know what will stick, who you will meet or how you'll feel after the experience.

9. Write a happy message on your mirror in dry erase marker.

You look in your mirror everyday, right? So if you write a happy, inspirational message there, you'll see it every morning! What's a better to way brighten your day, right from the start?

10. Sing your heart out.

Do your roommates tell you that you have an awful singing voice? Or are you convinced your singing career is about to take off? Either way, sing to your hearts content. Release any pent up emotions and energy by jamming out, loud and proud.

11. Eat something delicious.

I don't know about you, but I find it pretty hard to be sad when I am eating ice cream. Don't like ice cream? That's okay! Find whatever food makes you smile and eat some once in a while. It'll be a nice treat after a long week!

Being happy doesn't have to be complicated. Sometimes, it can be all about doing what you enjoy and taking it easy.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
