Spring is finally here after the long and brutal winter months. You can finally put your long winter jackets and Ugg boots away till next year. This is my favorite time of year because the nice weather always puts people in a better mood.

Also, there are so many fun things to do in the Washington D.C. area in the spring. Whether you like shopping, going to festivals, or just enjoying the beautiful weather, you will definitely find an activity on this list that you will enjoy.

Here is a list of 11 activities to do in Washington D.C. this spring season.

1. Cherry Blossom Festival.

Everyone had to have known that this was going to be on the list. This is a very popular festival that many people from across the country attend. During the next few weeks we are all going to see pictures of people posted on various social media platforms with the cherry blossom trees in the background.

2. The National Zoo.

The National Zoo is so much fun for people of all ages. It houses about 4,000 animals from 400 different species, and it has so many different exhibits. The best part about the zoo is that it is free!

3. Dupont Circle FreshFarm markets.

Dupont Circle’s farmers market will be open April through December 2016 on Sundays from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. It consists of many different vendors ranging from fish, cheeses, fruits, vegetables and much more.

4. Washington Monument.

I’m sure most people have already visited the Washington Monument, but if you have not been there yet you should definitely go in this warm spring weather. Also, if you have been there already, it is still a fun stop to make the next time you are in Washington D.C.

5. Lincoln Memorial.

This is one of my favorite monuments on the National Mall. I still find it super cool every time I go and visit. Also, if you are not looking to spend too much money, this is definitely a good activity because it is free.

6. National Harbor.

The National Harbor is right on the Potomac River and it contains many shops, restaurants, boutiques and hotels. This is a very vibrant area and can entertain people for an entire day or even a long weekend. Also, for people who are not terrified of heights, there is ferris wheel that looks over the river.

7. Duck Tours.

This is a really fun activity to do with both your friends and family. The tour will take you through Washington D.C. before heading into the Potomac River. I would definitely recommend this as a fund and exciting way to experience the city.

8. Rock Creek Park.

It is one of the country’s oldest and largest parks in an urban area. Many people describe it as being similar to New York City’s Central Park.

9. Anacostia River Festival.

This festival will be held on April 17, 2016. There will be art exhibits, live music performances and many other activities. The best part is that admission to the festival is free.

10. National World War II Memorial.

This is a fun activity do for people of all ages. Some people think going to monuments is boring, but if you go on a beautiful day it is just nice to be outside.

11. Georgetown.

One of my personal favorite things to do on a nice day is to walk around Georgetown. There are so many fun shops and restaurants in this area. Also, it is always nice to hang out by the waterfront on a sunny spring day.

Try one of these fun activities the next time you are bored and have nothing to do. Remember to step out of your comfort zone in order to experience new things.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
