There are lots of things that define us, like our physical appearance, college major or family background. But the most apparent aspect of our identity comes down to our personality type. These may just be traits, but if you're anything like me, your whole personality is defined by the ever-obvious label of Type A. Type A personality is both a blessing and a curse, but it always comes down to the specific elements of the hardest personality type to live with.
1. Punctuality
Early is on time, on time is late, and late is unacceptable. Even if it's just a 10-minute drive, the Type A driver will leave 30 minutes early because you just never know what kind of traffic will occur.
2. Academics
Type A people are naturally inclined to exceed academic expectations. Just the thought of a B induces severe anxiety. One perk to this is that we often have respectable GPA's.
3. Cleanliness
Daily laundry, excessive vacuuming and air freshener galore are all too familiar to someone with a Type A personality. We're the people that keep Febreeze in business.
4. Organization
A color-coded closet is just the start of it. We have to label everything or arrange it in alphabetical order. But there's always a method to our madness.
5. Lists
There's a list for everything. And your lists are also color coded and arranged by date. You may or may not have multiple planners, as well.
6. Stress
Stress is what keeps us going, and the word "relax" is definitely not in our vocabularies. Everything causes stress to some degree, but somehow we always manage it with as little carnage as possible.
7. Perfectionism
If I had a dollar for every time I've been called a perfectionist, I'd have enough money to start my 401K (since I'm Type A and therefore always planning ahead).
8. Intelligence
Type A people tend to be highly intelligent, so you're always the person that people ask when they need help recalling a fact or event. We also usually have impeccable memories.
9. Impatience
Who said being high-strung is a bad thing? We just don't like wasting precious time! We don't have time for nonsense but this makes us some of the most efficient people around.
10. Control
If you're remotely Type A, you grew up with your friends and parents telling you were "too bossy" (like that's a bad thing). We know that if we want something done the right way, we have to do it ourselves. We are also the people that immediately step up and become the "group leader" when assigned a dreadful group project.
11. Urgency
Every task we undertake is taken very seriously, which isn't always appreciated by our Type B counterparts. What they see as a nonchalant assignment, we see as life or death. "Procrastination" is not in our lexicon. Time is of the essence and we can never let a single second go to waste. But that just means we have more time for fun while the rest of the less-efficient world makes up for lost time.
