Being born and raised in Louisiana, I know everything there is to know about being a Louisiana girl. Since I’ve moved to Texas this past week to attend college, I’ve been asked so many questions about what it’s like to live in the state of bayous, crawfish, and parades. Well, I’m here to confirm all of the rumors and give insight on living in the unique state that is Louisiana.
1. Jazz music is at the top of everyone's playlist.
Everyone living in Louisiana has Louis Armstrong’s station saved on Spotify. Forget Taylor Swift and Maroon 5! We can’t stop waving our jazz fingers!
2. Our Cajun accent is so strong that no one can understand us.
Our Creole blood takes over, and sometimes the French expressions come out unexpectedly. “Lessez-les bon temps roulez!!” What, what?
3. The only city that matters is New Orleans.
Yeah, I’ve never heard of Shreveport, either.
4. We eat crawfish for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
Mmm, that delicious seafood sure does taste great with pancakes. And coffee. And anything else, for that matter.
5. We always walk down the streets with Mardi Gras beads around our neck.
Oh, Mardi Gras-- a Louisianian’s favorite holiday. Once we catch the beads, we can’t put them down. It’s like expensive jewelry to us.
6. Alligators like to chill in our backyard.
Forget the family dog…we have a family gator! Since all of Louisiana is basically a swamp, why would you assume otherwise?
7. Everyone from Louisiana goes to LSU.
Like, seriously, everyone. Even me.
8. Every word ends in "-eaux."
Geaux Saints! Geaux tigers! Just to let you kneaux, using this ending is essential if you want to fit in here.
9. Our two favorite drinks are sweet tea and beer.
Ah, there’s nothing better than Granny’s good ole homemade sweet tea. Don't forget, babies also love to chug beer out of the bottle. You know Louisiana kids love to party.
10. We ALL practice Voodoo.
We train our kids when they’re young. You can’t trust us too much, because we might put a spell on you.
Oh, yes! It's exactly like "The Princess and the Frog."11. We have the nicest people in the world.
This one is actually true.
