Hi, baby sis! What you're about to read is, without a doubt, going to be the most important thing you've read all day. So listen up. I'm here, as your big sister, ready to give you my expertise on life. Don't roll your eyes at me already, I know you are. This is not another one of my spiels where I'm trying to get you to stay away from my room or my stuff. This is an article to you, letting you know everything that I hope you will remember for the rest of your life.
1. You don't need to wear make up every time you go out in public.
I've been at that point in life. All you want to do is look attractive for other people. This being said, it is important for you to take care of yourself. What I mean by this is that you're gorgeous without it. You don't need all the foundation and eyeliner. You just need the confidence to know that your natural beauty is more than enough. I will always be the first one to tell you that, but if somebody tells you otherwise, they are not worth your time so send them on their way.
2. You do not look "fat" in that outfit.
Yup, I've been there too. Trying on hundreds of outfits just to end up disappointed in the first one you tried on. It's not fair because all of your friends are skinny and you're the only one with a little bit of meat on you. That by no means makes you fat. The longer you stare at your body in the mirror, the more your mind creates body dysmorphia. Again, you just need confidence. You rock that outfit. Trust me.
3. My advice about boys is valid. Seriously.
I know that I don't know everything, but this I am sure of. I've seen a lot of different types of boys in my time around the block. The one that constantly tells you how "sexy" and "hot" you are is nothing. He's not seeing your true worth. He's trying to see through your clothes.
4. It's okay to admit when Mom and Dad are right.
They're annoying, and it sucks when you're in an argument with them and you're proven wrong, but just give it to them. Fighting the truth won't get you anywhere. You know that I'm the most stubborn person in the world, and I will scrape any evidence to prove that I'm right, but sometimes, you just don't win. Yes, I know that I still don't like it when either one of them is right, but I've accepted it. You should too.
5. Pick your battles.
Some things aren't worth fighting over. If it's unimportant and getting your point across won't in any way benefit you or anyone else, keep your mouth shut. More likely than not, the other person isn't worth your time. Don't grant them with that privilege.
6. It's not cool to be cool.
" Mean Girls" is a great movie, but don't be one. It doesn't get you anywhere. You want others to think of you in a positive way, not resent you. Even if your friends start to fall down that path, stop yourself. You are better than that, and you know you are.
7. Please don't give up.
Set a goal, and try your hardest to reach it. Nothing hurts worse that losing something that was once your life. I've learned the hard way, and it doesn't get better with time. I've watched this passion of yours evolve, and nothing would make me happier than you working your little butt off to grasp your dream. Wishing won't make it happen. Take matters into your own hands, and show everyone how it's done.
8. One bad grade isn't going to kill you.
Seeing that grade on the top of your paper will ruin your day, I'm not saying that it won't. It most definitely ruined mine. You just have to remember that it isn't the end of the world. There are going to be so many other tests that you will kill to make up for this one. Look where I am. I'm still here! Trust me, there were lots of bad grades, and there still are for me. You just need to use it as motivation to do better next time. You're smart, so don't let a test make you think otherwise.
9. Let him go.
He really isn't as important as you think. You're so young and special, and if he can't realize that, then let him go. Don't spend your time playing his games, because in the end, he's just going to hurt you like the first time. Relationships like this never work, so just move on. It may hurt, but it's worth it.
10. I look up to you just as much as you look up to me.
I know that I'm older, but that doesn't mean you're not my role model too. I've seen you grow, and I've seen the adversity you've faced. You're stronger than anyone I know. I wish that you could see the way you look through my eyes. You're gorgeous (obviously, you're related to me), you're so caring (I taught you that) and you know what's right and what's wrong (I taught you that, too). You're going to conquer the world, and I'm going to be by your side every step of the way.
11. I love you.
No matter how much we bicker and snap at each other, you are always going to be my best friend. I'm always going to love you like nobody else. We are sisters. Forever and ever. Nothing in this world could change that.
