College is full of of new and exciting experiences. If you're a first semester freshman stepping onto the college scene for the second semester or a senior finalizing plans for what you're going to do after graduation, there is always something unfamiliar and unique that will happen over the course of a semester. Home, on the other hand, is comforting and familiar. There are people and places that never seem to change, allowing you to feel more rested and relaxed during your time away from school. Here are some of the best things about being home for the holidays.
1. Family
Don't lie, you missed your mom, dad and two younger sisters. And you secretly love it when you all bicker again. Nothing has changed and that's the best part.
2. Friends
Once again, absolutely nothing has changed. You just get to hear more crazy stories about different people. Did we ever even leave this town?
3. Going to your own Chipotle.
Is this just me? I love the Chipotle in my town. It definitely tastes better than the one by my college, even after the, uh, e coli incident. Now I just have my fingers crossed every time I take a bite.
4. Real food.
No matter where you go, your mom's cooking is always home. And it's so much better than the food in the dining hall.
5. Sleeping in your own bed.
I swear, there is just some magical power about sleeping in your own bed. You sleep longer and better and there isn't something weird happening in the hallway at 5am to wake you up. In addition, there aren't any fire drills. Thank God.
6. Not having to set an alarm.
There aren't any 8 a.m. classes to go to which means no horrible, ridiculous, annoying alarm. Paradise.
7. Showering
In your own bathroom with no shower shoes! There's also no way I can forget conditioner in my room. Life doesn't get much better than this.
8. Laundry
If your mother is a saint and offers to do your laundry for you, you say yes immediately. Oh, the joys of being home.
9. Driving
After going without a car for a few months, driving is freedom. You might even offer to run errands for your mom (although, as a warning, that can get old fast). Even if you've had a car at school, driving around your own neighborhood is the best thing ever.
10. Pets
Seeing your dog or cat or bird or fish might be better than seeing your own family. And if you don't have a pet, seeing your childhood friend's pet still might be better than seeing your own family.
11. Being home
College is fun and exciting, and there are always so many new things happening. All of that can get overwhelming, especially when you have to face it all head on for months at a time. When all is said and done, you learn over break that Dorothy said it best: "There really is no place like home."
