Having younger siblings is a challenge, no doubt about it. But having a sibling that's fifteen years younger than you? That just takes things to the next level...
Although there are many things that change when you have a new sibling to the family that's significantly younger than you, there are eleven things in particular that I've picked out that basically sum it all up.
1. You get mistaken for their mom/dad.
I kid you not: at a family friend's baby shower, an older woman asked me if my little sister was my first... My first child!? Ummmmmm, no. First sister, yes!
2. The first question your friends ask you when they see you is: "How is your sister/brother doing?"
This is code for "Can I see pictures/videos?"
3. Then, you proceed to show the last month's worth of pictures and videos that you took of your sibling.
And no less than 50% of your camera roll is devoted to them.
4. When you get photos of your sibling from your parents while you're at school and you get emotional because you won't see them until after the semester ends.
The struggle is so real.
5. When you babysit your sibling and they get on your nerves so much that they kind of make you want to leave them to their own devices...
"It's fine" is the mantra.
6. When you want to tell them something, but then you realize that they won't understand or they'll just repeat it to your parents.
Aaaaand I'll just keep it to myself.
7. Sometimes they try to act like you, which can be annoying, but it's mostly cute.
Matching necklaces? Yep, got 'em.
8. When they talk about their favorite T.V. shows and movies but you have no idea what they're talking about.
What is "Daniel Tiger's Neighborhood," anyway?
9. When you don't see them for a while and they seem to have gotten so much bigger while you're gone.
What do you mean she doesn't take naps anymore!?
10. They bring out your inner child.
You find yourself singing songs from the movies they watch and actually enjoying it.
11. They might drive you crazy but, no matter what, you love them.
