11 Struggles Of Getting Your Wisdom Teeth Out

There are so many videos of people getting their wisdom teeth out and either saying or doing something dumb or funny while in a drugged haze. The videos are hysterical, but along with watching those scenarios comes the reminder that getting teeth pulled out hurts. Everyone tries to prepare you for the pain and discomfort you will most likely feel, but they leave out the random, ongoing problems that accompany getting your wisdom teeth removed. Here are 11 struggles I faced after I had all four wisdom teeth extracted.

1. It feels like there is constantly something stuck in your back teeth.

The stitches keep the recently opened holes in your mouth closed, and remain there for days after the procedure. Technically, there really is something constantly in the back of your mouth, and it is truly irritating.

2. You cannot open your mouth all the way.

In order to actually eat, you have to mush up food in your mouth and then basically swallow it whole. Tasty, right?

3. All the medications you have to take make you foggy and tired.

Don't mind me sleeping till 3 p.m.

4. You cannot eat what you want to eat.

Everyone is enjoying a nice, delicious meal, and you have to sip your drink and keep your mouth from watering.

5. You really want to eat.

Some people say they were not really hungry after getting their wisdom teeth out. I was not one of those people. I swear, I was hungry more often because I knew I couldn't really eat.

6. You are terrified someone may accidentally hit your cheeks.

Seriously, don't touch me.

7. You resemble a chipmunk.

Your cheeks are all puffed up, but not from having food in your mouth. Less fun.

8. Everyone tells you their own personal “wisdom teeth” horror story.

Dry sockets, stitches falling out too early, not being able to eat for a month. Wow, thank you for sharing. I feel completely confident in my recovery now.

9. Even when your mouth feels fine, you are afraid to eat.

For the first time ever, I don't know if eating a burrito is worth it. I just don't know.

10. There is no time frame for when you will be “fully healed.”

The "everyone heals at a different pace" answer gets old pretty fast.

11. No one mentions that the IV they stuck in your arm was going to hurt and leave a bruise.

It feels like I will forever be healing from having my wisdom teeth yanked out. Though honestly, it is not nearly as bad as people make it out to be. You're just hungry and a little sad all the time.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
