Everyone knows what Netflix is. Everyone loves Netflix, everyone relies on Netflix, and life without Netflix in today's day and age is just nonexistent. A new issue has arose however. This problem is starting to affect people all across the globe and i unfortunately myself struggle with it.
I struggle with Netflix Addiction. I know, it takes a big person to admit when they have a problem, but the problem with said problem is: I don't ever want to fix it.
Netflix first came about in 1998. Back then they would mail you DVDs, and when you were done you'd mail them back. Think of it as your own personal blockbuster delivery service. In 2008 is where the real issue happened:online streaming. Right from your couch you could watch Netflix on the Internet. Depending on the TV you have, you can stream it straight from your TV. I know that's insane, but it totally happened.
So now we are left binge-ing for hours, while eating a bag of potato chips, and feeling put out when any type of civilization tries to come in contact with us.
Now there are signs of this addiction that is taking over mine (and possibly my roommates) lives.
You can get help {if you want it}.
1. You sing along to the opening songs in all of your favorite shows.
Think about the TV show Friends. If you have ever seen this show, and watched it religiously; then you know this opening song. In fact, you are now probably singing it in your head. This iconic group of people made coffee shops cool, and brought many laughs to us. So binge watching this show is totally understandable.
2. You know the exact release dates to certain shows.
And when they finally come out on Netflix you do this little dance like Michelle Tanner from Full House.
3. You're annoyed by the "Are you still watching?" question that pops up.
Not only are you annoyed by this curious little question, but it seriously engages you to the point of addressing Netflix out loud. Like "Of course I'm still watching because what else could I possibly be doing? Netflix is my life now."
4. You fall into a depression when you finish your show.
Because you stayed up until 3 am watching the newest season of OITNB, you finished it earlier than anticipated. Now you have no new show to watch, and on top of that you have to wait an ENTIRE year for the next one to come out. What do you have to live for?
5. You'd rather spend your time bingeing on old shows, than do anything productive.
That's right, I could listen to how much Lucas Scott loves Brooke Davis (and Peyton Sawyer) all night long. I'd rather look at Lucas Scott, and wish I was Brooke Davis (or Peyton Sawyer) than actually get out of bed and go find my own Lucas Scott. I mean we all know that's just not even possible.
6. You casually scroll through Netflix to see if there are any shows you may like.
I actually found this gem of a TV show while scrolling through Netflix once. Since then I have watched the seasons on Netflix 3 times waiting for the newest on to come out.
7. Netflix and chill actually means Netflix and chill.
I take my Netflix shows seriously. I do not have time for anything else. If you don't want to watch Netflix with me, I'm not interested.
8. Netflix breaks your heart when they are two seasons behind.
It's the worst feeling in the world to find out that Netflix only has season from 2014 and you know for a fact that there is a new season of that show out in 2016. Get it together Netflix.
9. You take the term "Homebody" to a whole new level.
What more do you really need?
10. You act busy when your friends call, but all your doing is watching Netflix.
Sometimes the separation can just be too much okay?
11. Lastly, you'd pay for Netflix over the bar any day.
Its about sacrifice. If the bar has to be the one thing to go than so be it. I will never give up my Netflix. Ever.
So that's it ladies and gents. If you fit in with any or all of this signs, then you may have a Netflix Addiction.
Luckily, everybody loves Netflix so you are in the clear.
Happy watching!
