11 Signs You Need Spring Break

Syllabus week has come and gone leaving students in a wake (get it?!) of darkness.

After a month of classes, we are thrown back into the dullness of nightly readings and early morning trips to Starbucks. The sparks of excitement of being back on campus have dwindled to a faint glow. As I write this I look around the ZSR and itch to escape the fluorescent rooms and stern faces of classmates avidly preparing for upcoming exams.

BUT, the light at the end of the tunnel is without a doubt Spring Break. Whether you are venturing to a sandy paradise or back home ballin', a week and a half away is vital to restore sanity.

Here are the signs you are ready for Spring Break:

  1. Obsessively opening a calendar and counting the days, hours, minutes, and seconds until you are traveling hundreds of miles away from campus dorms.
  2. Making lists of things you want to accomplish in those 10 days but actually never “get around to” Whatever, it’s the thought that counts right? Besides it’s called a break for a reason…time to chillax.

  3. Compulsively purchasing apparel that is a must for your trip because you “just can’t” imagine going without it."
  4. Looking back through photos from last spring and saying, “woah look how tan I was” and being frightened at your current pasty complexion.
  5. Day dreams occupied with visions of lounging and endless sunlight.

  6. Reminding yourself that you will not have to send the text, “Want to eat at Benson or the Pit?”
  7. Preparing to actually get a good night sleep, the twin XL just doesn’t suffice. It is comforting to think that if you change positions while asleep, there is a significantly lower chance of rolling off the bed and onto the frigid white tile floors.
  8. Being tempted to drag the dusty roller bag out from storage and begin to fill it weeks in advance instead of studying for the two tests and essay due in the following 24 hours.

  9. Gracing the people accompanying you in travels with weekly or daily reminders of the upcoming vacation…"ahhhh we will be at the beach in 20 days!! can't wait! Don't forget to bring those sunglasses I want to borrow."

  10. Warning your parents that you will be exceeding your monthly allowance and possibly need more spending money than they originally intended on granting you.

  11. Planning to a T what you will be wearing, eating, doing, etc. the day you are freed from Wake's grip and rushing to the airport.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
