Everyone loves going home for Thanksgiving break. By this point in the semester we are all exhausted and just need some time to decompress. Here are 11 reasons to be excited about going home.

1. Seeing your family

Maybe you talk to your family all the time, and maybe you don’t. Either way, it’s nice to catch up and and spend time with your family.

2. Seeing your pets

It’s been a stressful semester which means the pet cuddles are long overdue. Spend some quality time with your pets while you’re home. You’ll both be happier for it.

3. Seeing your friends from home

It can be hard to stay in touch with your friends from home, especially if you all go to different schools. Make sure to hang out with them while you’re all home. Catch a movie, go shopping, grab lunch, or just hang out; make sure you see them!

4. Home cooked meals

Everyone has a few meals that just aren’t the same unless they’re made at home with your family. Take advantage of the delicious cooking before you have to go back to mass produced dining hall food.

5 . Sleeping in your own bed

My bed at home is still a twin size, but at least it’s not 8,965 feet off the ground. If you have a larger bed at home there’s even more reason to be excited about this one. Catch some zzz’s!

6. A bathroom that you don’t have to share with your whole floor

It’s always nice to have some privacy in in the bathroom. I’m looking forward to those Holiday scented Lush baths on some chilly nights.

7. Free time

Sure you might still be busy, but you won’t have class. You can fill that time with seeing loved ones, sleeping, reading, working, and whatever else you haven’t been able to squeeze into your busy schedule lately.

8. Dressing up

Maybe this is just me, but it’s so much easier to dress up and wear cute outfit when I don’t have to get up early and walk 5 miles a day. With the extra time and easier modes of transportation, I love to put a little more time into dressing nice.

9. Sleeping in

Even if you have a bunch of plans for break, I’m sure you’ll be able to find a little extra time to catch up on your sleep debt in the mornings. If you have early classes, then you know the sun isn’t even really up until almost 8am. It’ll be nice to be sleeping while it’s dark in the morning.

10. Laundry is free

Maybe your parents do your laundry for you, maybe they don’t. Regardless, the dryer might actually dry your clothes for once and you won’t have to pay for it.

11. There aren’t any 'quiet hours'

Of course you should be respectful of your family, especially when they’re sleeping. With that said, if you’re being loud late at night, chances are it’s with your family. You won’t have any RAs writing you up for laughing a little too loud, sometimes you just can’t hold back.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
