11 Reasons Why I Love Being In A Sorority

If you just so happen to catch me out of the house, you'll most likely see me wearing my letters. Proudly displayed on my shirt, I represent my sorority wherever I go. For some people, Greek Life is a world full of hazing and stereotypes. But the truth is, Greek Life is a wonderful thing. It's filled with leadership opportunities, great friends and strong values. I have learned so much from being in a sorority and I will always have a deep appreciation for this opportunity. Here's 12 reasons why I love my sorority:

1. My sisters are some of the most amazing people I've ever met.

We are a small sorority, and that definitely has its perks. Because my sorority is small, I get the opportunity to really know each of my sisters. We get the chance to form even stronger bonds and become very close. Each one of my sisters is different and unique in her own way and I think that is wonderful. That is part of the reason I joined.

2. I am able to help other people with our philanthropy.

By being in a sorority, I am able to help others, and I think that is amazing. Every organization has a different philanthropy, ours is philanthropy is STOP Domestic Violence in Clinton County. We help raise awareness on the dangers of domestic violence. We attend workshops and training to help us to be better at helping others and noticing the signs of domestic violence. Our sorority hosts events and we raise money to give to STOP.

3. It's not four years, it’s for life.

It sounds very cheesy, but it’s very true. Sorority isn't just contained to school. My sisters are always going to be there, even after we are all out of school.

4. My big is my biggest supporter.

Whether I had just written a new article, got a really good grade, or did my hair for the first time in days, she is always there to support me. She is my best friend, teacher, mom and sometimes nurse. We may not always get along, but I know that she will always be there for me. And even when I have been nothing but a Cranky Cathy, she still loves me.

5. In my darkest moments or my brightest days, my sisters are always by my side.

No matter what is going on in my life, my sisters are always there to go through it with me. In my roller coaster of a life they are always sitting in the seat next to me, waiting to tackle the next obstacle that comes in my path. I have two biological sisters and 24 non biological sisters who always have my back. I am definitely a lucky girl.

6. Our values help to make me a better sister and person.

Being a sister means that I live by these values and if there's ever a time when I am not at my best, I remind myself of our values and how they help myself and others.

7. Because if I pay for my friends, I haven't paid enough for these.

Seriously though. My sisters are an amazing bunch of inspiring women who I look up to. I will never stop singing their praise or telling them just how much they mean to me.

8. I'll always have someone to eat with.

If there's anything sorority girls love, its food. And I know that at whatever time, there's most likely a sister willing to make a Five Guys run.

9. It makes group costumes a lot easier.

Whether it's for Halloween or a mixer, there is always someone who's willing to be a part of your group or couples costume.

10. Because I felt at home the moment I met them.

Walking into my first rush event, I knew that was where my heart belonged. Everyone was their own different person, with all sorts of personalities and views. It was nice to see all those differences in one room and I knew that I would fit in.

11. Because although we are all different, we all come together for one common thing.

We are all there for one reason, because we love being sisters. We love our values, philanthropy and sisterhood. We loved what our sorority had to offer and we felt we all had something to offer in return. We may be different, but we are the same, we are sisters.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
