11 Reasons I'm Grateful Today

Trying to start 2017 off with some positivity and truth. So, I'm beginning with gratefulness.

"The more you are in a state of gratitude, the more you will attract things to be grateful for." - Walt Disney

1. I'm grateful for my home.

I live in the beautiful small rural town of Dillon, Montana. Even though I wasn't born here and therefore I'm not technically from here, I still love to tell people that I am (can't help it).

2. I'm grateful for my friends & family.

Thank God for all the support I've received from my family since the very beginning. I wouldn't be who I am today without them. And of course, friends are the family you choose, so they are included in this!

3. I'm grateful for my health.

A year ago I was dealing with a serious injury. Two surgeries and two months later, I eventually walked again. I'm thankful to be able to ride horses and do what I love now.

4. I'm grateful for the horses in my life.

Currently I have the privilege of riding two colts and I own one mare. Their names are: Soul, Viola, and Esther (my #1). Horses are oxygen for me, I'm grateful that I get to be a part of their lives.

5. I'm grateful for my church.

Dillon Vineyard has been my refuge, my cheerleader, and counselor so many times over the past four years. They keep on setting examples of faith in action, and that inspires me.

6. I'm grateful for weekend marathons of the Lord of the Rings.

Seriously though, Gimli might be my favorite. Honestly, I pick a new favorite each time I watch these movies. Thank you Peter jackson and J.R.R. Tolkien for your genius minds.

7. I'm grateful for Starbucks Caramel Macchiatos.

My addiction, I'll admit. I'm not ashamed of it. (Anybody wanna buy me a Starbuck's gift card?)

8. I'm grateful for the mountains outside my window.

I grew up in Georgia so there was a severe lack of mountains. One of the things I love most about Montana is the mountains. I never get used to seeing them. For me, mountains are such a reminder of the beauty and strength of who God is.

9. I'm grateful for the opportunity to pursue higher education.

I'm a Natural Horsemanship major at the University of Montana Western. Being in college has taught me so much about learning, other perspectives, and most importantly, that failing is okay.

10. I'm grateful for the snow (but only sometimes).

I do actually love the snow. Sometimes I get a little annoyed with it, but I love getting to nail my friends with snowballs. That's a blast.

11. I'm grateful for my faith.

I'll let C.S. Lewis say it for me: "God doesn't want something from us. He simply wants us."

What are you grateful for today? Spread it around!

10 Things Only Equestrians Understand

Yes, it IS a sport. Yes, I fall all the time. No, I do not ride in jeans with a cowgirl hat on.

Growing up I have always wanted to own a horse. My grandparents own a well known equestrian facility in Georgia, so I have been riding since I was born. A bond between a person and their horse is a bond so strong that it cannot be broken. Everywhere I went I wanted to be around horses, even forcing my family to go on trail rides during vacations. Horses have been a part of my life for as long as I can remember has taught me great responsibility, as well as 14 things that all equestrians can relate to.

College is super hard. Between working, studying, and having a social life, it feels like a struggle to just keep afloat.

I understand. When you feel like your drowning and there's no way to stay afloat I understand that it feels like everyone else is doing just fine. I understand all the frustration, long nights in the library, and that feeling that you want to just throw in the towel. I understand that sometimes it's too hard to get out of bed because your brain is already filled with too much information to remember. I understand because I am also feeling pretty burnt out.

No Matter How Challenging School Gets, You Have To Put Your Health First — A Degree Won't Mean Anything If You're Dead

Some of the best advice I've ever received was from my social studies teacher in sophomore year of high school. He stated, "If you don't know it at midnight, you're not going to know it for the 8 a.m. exam, so get some sleep."

It's such a simple piece of advice, but it holds so much accuracy and it's something that the majority of college students need to hear and listen to. "All-nighters" are a commonality on college campuses in order to cram in studying for an exam that is typically the next day.

Obsessive Thoughts Keep My Brain Stuck On A Loop And Me Stuck On My Couch

Sometimes my brain just starts turning on an idea and it doesn't want to stop.

I don't know if it is related to my anxiety, perfectionism or depression. I don't know why it happens. It's frustrating, it's painful and it stops me from functioning.
