Being the middle child, like any other place in the family, has its ups and downs. However, being the middle child has proven to be very different by those who experience it for a number of different reasons. Being the middle child can be a real struggle more often than not.
1. Be like both your siblings at the same time always
You have to live up to the expectations of your older sibling, while still having to set a unique example to your younger sibling.
2. Why can't you just be them?
You get compared to both your siblings because you aren’t as accomplished as the older one, but not as innocent as the younger one.
3. Eh, is it really that important?
Often times, your events are ignored because you aren’t the “first” for things, but you also aren’t the “baby” of the family doing things for the last time.
4. Be original!
You are often accused of “copying” your older sibling, but your younger sibling isn’t ever accused of copying you.
5. To grow up or to not grow up? That is the question.
You are constantly torn between trying to grow up like your older sibling and trying to get away with immature things like your younger sibling can.
6. Oh, you have a prom too?
Your prom and homecoming in high school seem less important because they aren’t exciting like the firsts your older sibling had and they aren’t the lasts of them like your younger sibling experiences.
7. #middlechildprobs
You are often told that you are “too young” for many things your older sibling can hear, do, or say, but then told to “grow up and set an example” for your younger sibling. It’s all very confusing.
8. "Wait, I can't remember...do we have a middle child?"
If you are a boy stuck between two boys (or a girl stuck between two girls), you are very much ignored. This doesn’t happen to badly if your siblings are the opposite gender.
9. And you don't get paid.
You are more often than not the one mediating arguments between the other siblings.
10. Did you hear something?
Your voice isn’t heard nearly as much as the spoiled younger one or the mature older one.
11. It must have been "the middle one."
Blame for things ends up on your shoulders more than your other siblings.
