One of the best part of studying abroad is the food of course! Europe is home to some of the best food in the world, especially Spain. Spain is known for having tapas which are small appetizer size snacks that often come free with a drink like wine or beer. Here are some of the best that Spain has to offer.

1. Croquetas

Often filled with potato, ham, vegetables or fish, and coated with egg and bread crumbs for frying.

2. Bocadillo de Calamares

A sandwich consisting of fried calamari in between two pieces of baguette bread.

3. Jamón Ibérico

It's very expensive but worth it! Iberian Ham is made from pigs who are acorn-fed and pure bred.

4. Tortillas de Patatas

An omelette with potatoes and onions.

5. Paella

A common dish originating in Valencia, Spain. It commonly contains various seafood, rice, chicken and green beans.

6. Churros Con Chocolate

Perfect fix for the morning after a long night at las discotecas (clubs) !

7. Tostas de tomate y jamón

Toasted bread with tomato and a thin slice of ham. Perfect tapa to eat with your beer or wine.

8. Tinto de Verano

Not exactly food but, it's Sangria's cousin, with a power combo of red wine and sparkling soda. Perfect for a very hot summer day.

9. Gazpacho


Cold soup typically served in the scorching heat of the summer time in Spain. It is a tomato based soup with olive oil, vinegar and various raw vegetables.

10. Patatas Bravas

Pieces of potato cut up into small pieces and then fried and served with salsa.

11. Sangria

The best way to drink wine.
