Staying healthy in college is easier said than done. It seems like it's something that everyone struggles with at this point in the year. Making healthier choices can be easy as long as you're intentional about it. Here are some tips that have helped me so far:
1. Stock your dorm with healthier choices.
This is the smartest thing you can do, and it's super easy. Pick out healthier foods at the store to stock your room with, and this way when you're hungry, you only have smart items to choose from.
2. Sleep, but not allllll the time.
Sleep is so important in college. If you're struggling with low energy on a busy day, definitely take advantage of those extra 20 minutes you have for a cat nap. And naps are great, but you just have to remind yourself not to let sleep consume your entire day.
It can be so tempting to sleep the day away on a day where you may not have much to do, but instead, get up and do something active! Go on a walk! Go meet a friend for coffee! Head to the Rec!
3. Don't eat when you're bored.
Don't do it. When you're bored, you're more likely to overeat! Before you grab a bit, ask yourself, "Am I really hungry?"
4. WATER!
Maybe it's time to cut back on the soft drinks, and drink more water! Not only is it better for your body, but its better for your skin too!
5. Eat breakfast.
If you've never been a breakfast person, then this isn't necessarily for you. But if you do normally eat breakfast, then don't skip out on it! Skipping breakfast is just going to make you even hungrier a few hours later, and you don't want to end up binging on something unhealthy because of it.
6. Skip the bus.
This is another very easy thing to do. Instead of waiting on the bus, simply walk or bike to class!
7. Take advantage of the Rec.
Go to the gym! There are so many different types of equipment that can be taken advantage of to change up your workout routine.
8. Grab a gym partner.
Agree to work out with your roommate or another friend! Its so much more motivating to work out when you have someone to do it with!
9. Commit to a plan.
Once you've decided you want to work out, find out what times during the week work best for your schedule and commit! Start easy! Maybe agree to only working out 3 times a week, and then work up from there!
10. Treat yourself!
Living a healthy lifestyle doesn't mean you can't still indulge every once in a while. Go enjoy a night out and eat your favorite meal every once in a while! (Maybe just run that extra mile on the treadmill next time you go to the gym:) )
