We each have control over how we react to a situation, and the perspective we choose to have can completely change our reaction. Sometimes life sucks, but it is never too late to bounce back. Here are some ways that you can take initiative over your life and move on from unhappy feelings:

1. Set a timer.

It sounds silly, but sometimes when I catch myself being sad about something little I will let myself be sad for 10 minutes. When the timer goes off, I choose to get over it. Trust me, it actually works!

2. Think about whether this will be important in a month, a year, or five years from now.

Most likely, it won't. Even if it seems like the end of the world at the moment, take a step back and change your perspective. It is probably not worth your time.

3. Keep busy to distract yourself.

Get off campus, get ice cream with your friends, write the essay you've been procrastinating on, go for a run, call your grandma... productivity is the best medicine! Plus, living your best life is the ultimate revenge.

4. Realize how small we really are, then pour your energy into something bigger.

World peace, anyone?

5. Do something nice for someone else.

Pay for the food of the car behind you in the drive-thru or compliment a stranger. Making someone else's' day better will always make you smile.

6. Lay in the sun.

Soaking up vitamin D from the sunshine is good for you mentally and physically! Don't take the sun for granted.

7. Buy a bath bomb and play some Jack Johnson music.

Light a candle and break out the essential oils. I promise you'll feel brand new afterward.

8. Watch an episode of "The Office."

Michael Scott can make you laugh even on your worst days.

9. Do not just sit in your sadness.

Let out a good cry. Then remember who you are and stand back up.

10. Play with puppies.

This is always the answer.

We truly don't have time to be anything but happy. Cheer up, buttercup!

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
